You cannot beat the smell of a freshly brewed coffee, whether it is first thing in the morning when you wake up and want a kick with a caffeine boost or later in the day just because. With so many brands and coffee machines out there on the market, we are all spoilt for choice. I have had a few in the past and was excited to try the Lavazza A Modo Mix Smeg Pod Coffee Machine.

I am usually a huge fan of an Americano or Cappuccino and having never tried an Espresso before, I was apprehensive as I always thought they were too strong or too bitter. Having never tried Lavazza before, why oh why did I leave it so long to try it! Amazing, fantastic, superb and absolutely delicious!

As soon as the coffee machine arrived, I could not wait to unpack it, plug it in and try it. WOW, so easy to set up and there is even a setting where; if you are in hurry, it will heat up even faster for you. I had 3 different coffees to choose from (see below under ‘Contents’ to read more. Over 2 days, I tried each of the and they were lovely. For me, the taste was exceptional which is very important to me. Nothing wishy washy for me, I like a good strong taste in coffee but at the same time, silky and smooth and the Lavazza delivers this and more.

The machine is slimline line and very stylish. Being slimline means it can fit in the thinest gap on your work top and is very easy to use:-

1. Remove water container from the back of the machine, fill with water and place it back on the machine
2. Lift the chrome lever upwards that sits on top of the machine
3. Place your coffee pod into the slot
4. Close the lever
5. Select 1 of the 2 functions that is on top of the machine in front of the lever and then let the machine do the work.

Once you have made your coffee, to remove the pod, open up the lever and pull out the chrome tray which is behind where the cup sits on, you will see a a black section which allows you to put your fingers in it in order to pull the tray out. You will then see that the coffee pod is in there. The tray is very easy to take out and put back again.

The lever is very easy and manageable when it comes to lifting it upwards and then closing it.

The water compartment is very easy to lift off, fill up and put back on to the machine where it sits at the back of it.

Buying the pods are very easy. I shop at Tesco usually and you get get 2 varieties for this machine, the Espresso and Lungo. At the time of this review, they were £4.40 for 16 pods, in comparison to a coffee shop, this only works out at just 0.275p per cup. Great price if you ask me! Even better, take a look at Amazon, the price works out even cheaper and is dependant on how much you buy. For example, I saw 128 pods for an amazing £22.00, this works out at 0.1719p. GOOD TO KNOW
Capsules are eco-friendly which means you do not necessarily need to throw them in the recycle bin, you can actually add them to a heap of compost and they will break down. How amazing is that!

Comes with a 2 year Smeg warranty.

Whilst I have not yet descaled the machine, the instructions appear very simple and you will need to by the Lavazza Descaler Solution which varies in price depending on where you buy it.
