My fiancée and I went to the Trafford Centre in Manchester to review La Tasca’s new menu. The Trafford Centre is a large indoor shopping mall which houses numerous outlets including a huge food court in the centre with more upmarket restaurants upstairs, this is where La Tasca sits. La Tasca is a Spanish tapas restaurant with many restaurants across the U.K. It prides itself on the wholehearted authenticity of its brand.

On arrival, we were obviously the early birds with nobody else bar staff in the restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly smile who asked us to take our pick of tables. The temperature was lovely in the restaurant, combatting the chilly outside feel although the music was quite loud and intrusive initially. I think this must have been turned down after a few minutes and was maybe just getting the staff pumped up!!

Our server, who didn’t have a name badge, took our soft drink order which were swiftly returned accompanied with a nice slice of lime. As we were not sure what we wanted as yet, she made the suggestion of some bread and olives to start us off. We ordered Pan Con Selection, bread baked in-house served with traditional side dishes of virgin olive oil, sherry vinegar reduction and vine ripened tomatoes and alioli. The bread was good as was the olive oil, however the tomato aide dish tasted very watery and without much flavour. Alongside the bread we ordered large green olives (smokey manzanilla) which were beautiful and I could have managed another bowl of them!

After we finally decided on our dishes, from the large selection available they were served a short time later. I decided on Calamaries, Chorizo, Pollo Con Chirizo, Patatas Bravas, whilst Linzi chose, Chorizo (all to herself, as she doesn’t like sharing) and a sneaky side dish of Croquetas de Espinacas. The tapas overall were acceptable, the calamaries was my favourite however I did not like the chicken and chorizo dish. I can’t quite place my finger on why but I just expected a bit more. The potato dish was tasty also however the sauce did get spicier and spicier the more you ate. Linzi enjoyed her burger although she was a bit disappointed with the fries which were a little on the cool side and very, very thin. The spinach and goat cheese croquette were definitely an acquired taste but she really enjoyed them especially dipped in garlic mayonnaise.

Overall the food was good value for money, the staff were attentive and the ambiance within the restaurant was extremely pleasing. With such a vast choice of eateries within the Trafford Centre, I fell it is likely we would return for another visit but after first trying some of the other venues.
