Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an operatic musical first produced in 1972 which played on Broadway in 1982.

Amazing that a show written so many years ago is still receiving standing ovations as it did last night at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. It delighted both young and old alike.

Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat tells the story from the Bible about Jacob, his son Joseph who had eleven brothers and the coat of many colours.

There were so many hits to sing along to including Jacob and Sons, Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do. My granddaughter and her friend happily sang and clapped along, I think if they could have got up and danced they would have done that too!

Meg, aged 12, said it was bouncy and energetic and she really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately Lloyd Daniels was unable to perform last night, but his understudy Matt Brinkler proved to be a very capable Joseph with Amelia Lily as the Narrator and Henry Metcalfe as Jacob.

The entire cast bonded together to create a wonderful performance. The brothers and the handmaidens danced and sang their way throughout the show with some excellent energetic numbers.

The costumes were appropriate for the period, but be prepared for some surprises! The scenery was simple, but it worked; the sheep were brilliant!!!

Throughout the performance The Joseph Choir provided by the Arts 1 School of Performance were on stage singing along with the actors. They also opened the second act with a medley of songs from Joseph.

We had a truly wonderful evening and thoroughly enjoyed Joseph. I would thoroughly recommend seeing Joseph as a family show.

Aylesbury Waterside Theatre is a very modern theatre which is easy to find with ample parking nearby.
