ASK Italian (Watford) Review

Reviewed by Dorothy White

This lunchtime my daughter, 9 year old granddaughter and I had a spectacular lunch (my granddaughter’s words) at Watford ASK.

ASK is almost on the corner of Market Street & High Street, just across from the Harlequin Centre.  It is very easy to find. A modern, clean, beautifully decorated restaurant in a building, which according to the address was the former post office. We were quickly welcomed, shown to our table, introduced to our waitress and given menus.

There was such a lot to choose from so we started with a drink. I eventually decided on garlic bread, my daughter chose Bruschetta and my granddaughter had vegetable crudités with garlic bread sticks and a dip.

I was shocked when my garlic bread arrived, a whole large pizza sized garlic bread to myself! Although really gorgeous I needed help to finish it. My daughter said her Bruschetta was delicious and my granddaughter quickly polished off her crudités and garlic bread before helping me out!

For the main course I chose Fettuccine Bolognese, my daughter Pollo Piccante con Pancetta (a pizza), and my granddaughter Penne alla Bolognese. Freshly grated Parmesan cheese and freshly ground black pepper were offered. All meals were hot and delicious and we all cleared our plates.

Our waitress was really friendly and helpful and nothing appeared to be too much trouble.

I didn’t really need a dessert, but when I saw Tiramisu on the menu I couldn’t resist. My daughter chose Honeycomb Cheesecake and my granddaughter fresh fruit, a mixture of strawberries, raspberries and grapes.  She quickly devoured her fruit then looked longingly at the Honeycomb Cheesecake. As she had just completed an hour’s competitive swimming training we took pity on her and ordered her a portion of her own.

ASK in Watford is a fairly new restaurant, from our experience is well worth a visit. The food was ‘spectacular’ and affordable, there was a children’s menu which was really good value, the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

I can thoroughly recommend ASK and would love to go back there very soon. You can even check out the menu online before you go!
