Now, here’s what lovely Jenny Lucas Of Audhdistically Me had to say…
How and when did your business start?
My business began with a desire to support others through coaching and holistic wellness (I’m a Reiki Master), but it truly took shape after being signed off from my teaching role in 2021 due to burnout. I had dedicated years to education, but something still felt insurmountable. In 2022, I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism, which finally explained so many of the challenges I had faced—the overwhelming demands of teaching, the complexities of parenting two neurodivergent daughters, and the feeling of needing to adapt to a world that didn’t seem designed for me.
Since my diagnosis, I’ve been on a continuous journey of learning, discovery, and growth. I threw myself into understanding how autism and ADHD uniquely manifest in women and completed formal coaching certifications to combine my teaching background with my lived experience. My goal is to provide support for other late- diagnosed neurodivergent individuals, recognising the huge journey of self-discovery that follows diagnosis, and how overwhelming it can feel without guidance.
My coaching is designed to be that support—providing clients with a guided, empowering path toward self-acceptance and personal growth. For those navigating the weight of a late diagnosis, it offers the tools and validation needed to embrace their unique traits with confidence and resilience, along with practical strategies for daily life. My clients often finish sessions feeling more understood, capable, and in tune with their strengths as neurodivergent individuals.
In addition to coaching, I host The Empowered AuDHD Community, a free Facebook group offering a safe, welcoming space where members can connect, learn, and feel validated in their journeys. I also host a monthly podcast, Autism, ADHD and Us Three, where I share the joys and challenges of parenting neurodivergent children as a neurodivergent parent myself. My aim in all of this work is to be the support I once needed, fostering a community and environment where others feel truly seen, accepted, and empowered on their paths of self-discovery and self-growth.
What have been your biggest business challenges?
Having the confidence to put myself out there and knowing where to find the clients who need my help! Sometimes the sheer amount of things which need to be done can feel super overwhelming.
Do you have any tips on keeping a good home/work life balance?
For me it’s about leveraging my time as sensibly as I can. If I have some spare hours in the day I’ll put them towards an aspect of the business, like creating content or getting ahead on planning for my weekly newsletter or monthly podcast. I have really started to pay attention to my own body in the last year and honouring what it is telling me. Sometimes I have grand plans and they have to wait because I need to rest. In the long run, prioritising my wellbeing means I can put more into my business and my clients as I am not pouring from an empty cup!
What do you like most about running your own business?
Absolutely the freedom to make decisions about how and where to work. Not having to answer to anyone else’s schedule or work demands is so freeing! Being able to directly see the impact of my work with clients and see the results they are able to get for themselves is magical!
What do you like most about being in Maddy Alexander-Grout’s Invisible To Influential membership?
Maddy’s authenticity and her top class support. She is always able to answer questions and give hints and tips for how to up-level my content. She also hosts some great workshops/masterclasses too!
Is anything exciting coming up that you would like to tell us about?
In January I am running a four week “Power of Happiness” course, designed to introduce people to the foundations of positive psychology and how striving for little moments of mindfulness and gratitude can have a huge impact on your daily life and feelings of overall happiness. I truly believe in the science behind this and am living proof of the impact this kind of knowledge and work has on transforming your whole life! What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting their own business?
Be prepared for things to not go as planned! And find a good business membership to be a part of early on so that you can make some great connections and lean into the experience of others.
Which activities do you enjoy doing in your leisure time?
I love food! So, I really enjoy going out to different places with the family to eat. I also enjoy looking after myself so I hit my 10,000 steps a day (I’ve walked over 4,000,000 steps so far this year!) and have recently taken part in a month long yoga challenge, which was really interesting! I have also recently started reading for leisure again and had forgotten how nice it is to have a read of something other than a screen before bed!
