I was sent the IMO Q4 2021 Pro to review and I was immediately intrigued. The IMO Q4 2021 Pro is described as a budget phone at £65.00 but has the looks of the more elitist brands with a 5.5 inch HD IPS Display screen with a great quality resolution and edge to edge display. The aspect ratio is 18:9 – which translates as 2:1, twice the width to the height in portrait. This is commonly regarded as being the most ideal for watching videos on YouTube or for VR (virtual reality) headsets. With 540 x 1132 dpi there’s plenty of detail to be enjoyed.
In total the measurements are 148.2mm x 71.1mm x 10.2 mm, still reasonable to slip into a pocket, though more easily in a bag.
It is often regarded that most mobile phones are made for men’s hands because, often, there are more men involved in the design and manufacturing process. Whilst the IMO Q4 2021 Pro measures comparably with other leading phones on the market, it is not too large for women’s slightly smaller hands and this translates as being a reasonable size for younger people too without losing too much in terms of modern functionality.
I have always felt that mobile phones should have an element of intuitive use to enable anyone to be able to get them to the point of use as quickly as possible and explore the finer details and features later. So, this is how I first began when I put the battery in and powered on the IMO Q4 2021 Pro.
Upon turning it on there is a brightly coloured display which gives a clear idea of what you might expect with the visual capacity of the IMO Q4 2021 Pro.
I quickly discovered how to navigate through the basic functions, to add a phone number, make a call, take a picture and access the internet. It feels reasonable to say there that the IMO Q4 2021 Pro does have an intuitive basic use and this would possibly widen the market it might appeal to.
The IMO Q4 2021 Pro features dual rear cameras of 8 mega pixels and 0.3 mega pixels. The front camera has 5 mega pixels. With some experimentation I took a few pictures and found that the images taken are adequate. There’s no artificial magnification or depth of field as often found in the market now and the images are true to the original image.
There’s also the face unlock security feature which will certainly be an advantageous element for some users without the use of passwords or screen locks.
The next functionality was to create a Google account, which I didn’t have. It doesn’t take long to set up and the IMO Q4 2021 Pro increases in personalisation once synchronised with your own user account. At this point it becomes easy to locate and download apps.
The internal memory is 16 gb and is easily expanded to 64gb with the use of a MicroSD card, these are inexpensive and simply inserted for instant use.
The IMO Q4 2021 Pro’s operating system is Android 9 Go which is responsive and reasonably quickly allows for all functions.
The phone comes with a charging cable, though not a plug and, unlike other phones on the market it does not include earphones. However, at the price it is reasonable and allows for a wider selection of over or in ear devices to suit the user.
I found the edge sensitivity to be a little less than mid screen when tapping on the digital keyboard or on apps. And it struggles to recognise the lazier tap with the side of a finger. It responds better with a more deliberate finger movement when inputting or selecting commands. The commands are also marginally slower in response than other phones, something only noticeable by a prolific text or email fan I imagine.
The battery life seems reasonable and certainly lasted throughout the time I might normally make use of a mobile device.
Another useful feature is the facility to access Google Family Link where it is possible to set up parental control preferences. However, some features are built in to the phone itself which gave me the opportunity to ensure that the phone turns off at a specific time and can only be accessed at a pre-set time. This is a brilliant feature if the phone is purchased for a child or young person who might be tempted to make use of it too late at night. It’s an appealing feature in my opinion. I feel it’s the kind of phone I might give my child once walking to and from school alone. Or for my Dad who in his retirement isn’t always interested in the more sophisticated bells and whistles often enjoyed. He would want wide functionality and ease of use but he doesn’t need a huge quality selfie camera when he’s never taken that kind of photograph.
The IMO Q4 2021 Pro is currently available on Tesco mobile and enjoys 4G access, just as most other mobile devices.
I really like the colour of the case body which is a subtle high gloss deep blue and reminiscent of its shade name – Midnight Blue. It’s quite a sleek and attractive phone overall and without an additional protective case it looks great. There are cases and other items which will work well with the phone available online, this makes it easy to protect and personalise.
In summary the IMO Q4 2021 Pro is a competitor for some of the leading populist mobile phones without the top shelf price tags.
