It may be not something you immediately think of as a gift, but with the rise in popularity of home fragrances, especially those using natural essential oils, then Poo-Pourri should definitely be on your shopping list.  I have often seen the adverts for these types of toilet spray but must admit never tried them, so I was very pleased to be given the opportunity to try a few products from the Poo-Pourri range. Whilst I was waiting for the delivery, I took the opportunity to have a look at the website and was very pleasantly surprised by what I found out. The sprays do not contain any alcohol, parabens, phthalates or formaldehyde and the bottles are recyclable. They are not tested on animals and there are no synthetic fragrances, only those from the 100% natural ingredients, so the sprays were ticking all my boxes before they had even arrived.

On arrival I was stunned to see how beautiful the little bottles looked; you would never know what they were for! I was lucky enough to be sent 7 different scents in a mixture of their small and large sizes, plus a product I didn’t know they did, Shoe-Pourri, for deodorising shoes. The bottles come in black or white, depending on the fragrance, with a black lid and are lavishly decorated with colourful flower and nymph designs. Each one is different with the design corresponding to the plants used in the fragrance. They are small, roughly 4 or 5 inches high, so discreet and pretty to keep out in your bathroom.

The Before-You-Go Spray is extremely easy to use, the bottles don’t use an aerosol, but a pump action and you simply pump three to five times onto the surface of the water in the toilet bowl before you go. The fragrances are really lovely, Lavender, Vanilla and Citrus was my favourite, with Wild Poppy & Berry coming a close second. If you prefer things less floral, then Eucalyptus and Spearmint could be for you, or try the lemongrass and bergamot fragrance of Original Citrus. There are plenty to choose from so I’m sure you will find something you like. Once you have done your business, you simply flush and that’s it. The spray provides a protective barrier that keeps the good smell out and the bad smell in.

Does it actually work you ask? Yes, it certainly does, the bathroom and cloakroom now smell of essential oils rather than a number 2, no more worries of someone coming into the hallway too close to a toilet visit!
With each bottle having 70-100 uses they are good value for money, even though they may initially look quite costly at £6.99/£7.99 a bottle, it is definitely worth it to keep your bathroom smelling fresh. Perfect for places where you normally share a bathroom such as hotel rooms, offices and other people’s houses.

Having a nine year old son who plays a lot of sport I was also keen to try the Shoe Odor Eliminator Spray, with a fragrance of cedarwood, eucalyptus & grapefruit, this was again a product that was very easy to use. Just one or two sprays into your smelly shoes, leave to dry a minute or too and you are good to go. Again, this actually works, and the shoe cupboard was noticeably less stinky after I had blitzed all the shoes. Can also be used on other smelly fabrics like gym bags and riding hats, so all in all a very useful product. In fact, both were great products which I will be purchasing again.

If your recipient likes home fragrances, some or all of the Poo-Pourri range would make a great gift, not only do they look pretty and smell amazing they actually work, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
