Over the years I have owned many waterproof coats, each only being waterproof to a degree, but inevitably ending up with me being wet! As an avid camper, I decided I needed a waterproof coat that would do what it says on the box, so I thought I’d try a Helly Hansen coat due to their incredible reputation. I went for the new loke 2.0 coat and chose a red one so I can be seen easily when hiking, plus I just loved the vibrant colour! It is made from 100% Polyamide (recycled) and is incredibly breathable. The pockets have a mesh lining, both the outside ones that have zips on, and inside ones that are deeper but open. There are also zips under both arms so if you get hot when walking you can open these so it lets some air through.

This is not a warm winter coat, but it is waterproof and windproof. One of the key factors to get right is the size, as when buying online it is hard to try them on! The Helly Hansen website usefully has a handy size guide where you put in your measurements and it tells you what size you will need (with 5 different options available). I did this and the coat fits well over a top, although not so well if I put a sweatshirt on underneath it. As a person who often feels the cold I do often need to do this, so I feel this should be taken in to consideration when advising on sizes. Besides this however, the coat is very comfortable to wear, and there are drawstring toggles around the hood as well helping to keep the rain off your hair! The cuffs also have Velcro fastenings to make them fit better; as the sleeves are a little long for me this is really useful as they fit well with this.

It’s also important to mention that this comes with RECCO technology. Whilst I didn’t look for this in a coat, it does provide some reassurance that if I was to get lost, it would be easier to find me! It is just one more thing that makes this coat outstanding. The quality of the finish is excellent, and everything appears to be as expected, but durability will only be proven over time. For a quality coat, it is not too bulky and it is lightweight and folds up small so it is easy to carry when it’s not needed, and even has an outside hook to hang it up from. It looks smart and I love the stylish logo which makes me feel special having such a good quality brand coat now. It’s not the cheapest coat out there, but also not the most expensive! For the excellence it provides, I think it is worth the cost. There is also free, fast shipping, so you can get this coat very quickly, and they have a free 30 day return policy if you’re not happy too – so it’s definitely worth a try!
