Harvester Clifton Moor York Review

I visited the Harvester at Clifton Moor in York for lunch with my daughter, my friend, and her two children. It is fairly easy to find and located at a retail park so plenty of parking. It was a beautiful sunny day and as I arrived could see that the front of the building had folding full-length windows that had been opened up to create a little terrace area where you could eat outside. First impression was it looked very new, clean and modern with sleek modern fixtures and plenty of staff.

We were greeted warmly by a staff member and taken straight to our table in a cozy private booth. We were left to look at the menus and our drinks orders were taken whilst we decided what to eat. We had been given colouring crayons and kids menus that doubled as colouring sheets to keep the children busy while we ordered and waited for our food.

The menus were varied but there wasn’t too much choice so that you spend ages deciding what to have. I liked how for most meals you can choose your side, so if you don’t want fries with your meal you can have sweet potato fries, baby potatoes, jacket potatoes rice or veg. Calorie amounts are also printed alongside each meal which is great if you need to be aware of your calorie intake. Personally I just ignored the calorie content on this occasion!

The kid’s menu is also varied with different dishes to suit every little diner. There is a ‘smaller bites’ or ‘bigger appetites’ menu that is great as it caters for kids with larger appetites without having to over feed them with an adult portion. Children can also have a choice of sides and a choice of veg as well so you have a good chance of sneaking a healthy portion of veg that they like into their meal.

After ordering we were directed to the unlimited salad bar that had a good variety of salad combinations, pasta and bread. Everything was fresh and looked appetizing, and there was a good choice of dressings available.

Our food arrived in good time and tasted amazing. I went for a cheese and bacon burger that was so tasty it was unreal; I also adored the seasoned fries. My friend had The Harvester 83 combo, which is half a rotisserie chicken and half a rack of baby back BBQ ribs along with fries. Each meal was a really good portion size and I can’t find fault with any of them.

Two of the kids had sausage and mash, and the other had fish goujons with chips and salad sticks. Again, the kid’s meals were good portions and we were warned when they were given to us that they were hot so we could warn the kids not to touch them right away. There were no complaints from any of the children and the majority of the food was devoured.

After our huge meal we thought we’d have a look at puddings. There is a good mixture of ice cream based puddings and more traditional puddings such as crumble or cake. I had the Cookie Dough, Caramel and Chocolate Fudge Brownie Stack, which was divine. It was just the right temperature of warm to make it gooey without being piping hot. It was very very sweet (which is to be expected!). My friend had the Chocolate Fudge Cake, which was served up as a huge slab with chocolate sauce and ice cream and I was amazed at the portion size.

The kids chose the Make Your Own Sundae, which comprises of a surprisingly large amount of vanilla ice cream with 4 pots of toppings such as chocolate sauce, fudge, smarties and honeycomb pieces so they can have the sundae exactly as they like it.

Overall I would highly recommend Harvester for a meal for any type of occasion. We left feeling full satisfied, valued, and with no qualms whatsoever with the service or food.
