My husband enjoys a whisky so I thought he might like this liqueur. We opened it while we were visiting my son & daughter in law. They all tasted it to review it for me as I am not a drinker. The first reaction was that it was quite sweet and the way to drink it is to sip it very slowly.
The description on the bottle is that this whisky liqueur is an infusion of scotch whisky with herbs and spices – in particular bitter orange, lemon oil, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon.
The black glass bottle is a nice shape with a subtle label. I feel that the word nectar in the name would draw people in to want to buy it as it is very inviting – giving ideas of something sweet, extravagant and luxurious. The bottle describes it as a delightful libation – meaning it should be offered as a drink to a diety. Something very special.
Overview
Distiller: Elixir (whiskyliqueur.com)
ABV: 35% (70% proof)
Country: Product of Scotland
Colour: Bronze
On the Nose
Aromas of caramel and vanilla.
Smells like a coffee syrup added to coffee in well known barista chains
On the Palate
Initially – Sweet , honey taste, dried fruits
Then as it goes down …. Smooth, warming, lightly malted with touch of vanilla and honey.
One comment was that it had a sweet honey taste. My husband thought that it tasted of aniseed.
Best Served
Neat.
With added ice
In a liqueur coffee
My family thought that it did not taste like the 35% proof ABV. My husband is not used to sweet drinks so it took him a while to get used to it. However, he did have a couple of small drinks. Opinions were that it is not a bad liqueur but just a bit on the sweet side.
Sweet, indulgent liqueur with a warming feeling in the mouth and as it goes down the throat. A great drink for Christmas celebrations, on a cold night or on New Years Eve. Would be a great boozy mixer for cocktails or a hot toddy in the winter.
