Gtech Pro Cordless Stick Vacuum Review

Reviewed by Chris Widdows

Spring is in the air and it’s time to start about giving my house its annual deep clean and at the same time giving the rooms a bit of a revamp. Spring brings out a new lease of life and freshness to the surroundings and I want the same for my home – bright, fresh and clean.

This winter has been awful, especially with the amount of rain we have had recently so I have gathered up all my cleaning supplies and equipment and am slowly starting on my spring cleaning. I have a 3 bedroom house and anything I can do to make it easier is welcomed, so I was delighted to be able to swap my old heavy vacuum cleaner for the Gtech Pro Cordless Stick Vacuum. As I am getting older, I want a vacuum cleaner that is lightweight but powerful, easy to use and versatile enough to use on my carpeted floors as well as the tiles, ceilings and curtain tops. The Gtech Pro meets all these criteria.

Most vacuum cleaners these days are bagless, which apparently work better as there are no bags to clog up and decrease performance. But with bagless more maintenance is also required as filters have to be removed and cleaned. Also, when emptying the dirt chamber dust and debris can go everywhere making them bad for allergy sufferers. I prefer a bagged a vacuum cleaner, maybe I am just old fashioned, but I think they are more hygienic with no dust plumes when emptying and require a lot less looking after. The Gtech Pro is a bagged vacuum, the first in Gtech’s vacuum cleaner range.

In the box:

  • Main unit (with bag fitted)
  • Battery
  • Extension Floor Tube
  • Power Floor Head
  • Power Brush
  • Dusting Brush
  • Crevice Tool
  • Charger
  • Spare Bag
  • Operating Manual

Out of the box, as it is a cordless vacuum cleaner the battery needs charging. To fully charge it takes approx. 4 hours. I love how easy it is to charge as there are 2 ways to do so – you can remove the battery and plug the charger directly into the battery or you can plug the charger into the main unit itself. By removing the battery you need very little space on the worktop to charge the battery. The battery has 4 indicator LEDs and will pulse green whilst charging, going solid green when fully charged.

Assembly is very easy and straightforward as the pieces just lip on/off depending on what configuration you require.

The Gtech Pro has 2 power settings, giving a runtime of 40/20 minutes depending on the setting you select.

For me, I love how lightweight it is. In full upright mode with the power floor head attached it only weighs 2.4kg. When used in handheld mode with the crevice tool attached it weighs 1.4kg. The weight will vary according to the attachment being used. As an older person, it means that not only can I vacuum my floors with ease, vacuum my curtain tops and removing dust from above the door frames and spiderwebs from the ceilings is doddle as it isn’t too heavy to lift.

The Gtech Pro is very easy to operate. Whether I am using it in stick or handheld mode it is very powerful, pulling up detritus from carpeted and hard floor surfaces with ease. In stick mode, it manoeuvres effortlessly and is extremely easy to get around furniture and reclines enough to get under furniture as well. In handheld mode, it’s perfect for the car, the stairs and even vacuuming the area where a messy grandchild has been eating! The powered brush features AirLOC technology which is designed to pick up larger debris while you vacuum forwards and lift fine dirt, dust and embedded hair on the backstroke. And to make it easy to see what you are vacuuming it has full width LEDs to illuminate your way.

Emptying is simple, you just remove the bag. The bag compresses a lot of the dust and dirt, so can contain a large volume of debris and when removed there is no dreaded dust cloud – this makes it much more hygienic over a bagless vacuum, and much better for anyone that has dust allergies.

Overall, I am exceptionally impressed with the Gtech Pro. Being lightweight makes it nice and easy to use, the power and suction are excellent and the versatility of a stick and handheld mode, as well as different floor surfaces, make it the perfect all-round cleaner.

At only £179 it is excellent value for money. If you are looking for a new vacuum cleaner for the home, caravan or car then I can highly recommend the Gtech Pro.
