Despite being in a built of area of our very own capital the Grape and Olive is like a little haven of bliss. When we arrived at the building it glistened beautifully as its decked patio was charmingly adorned with fairy lights. The outside space was a lovely space to be at night and I’m sure will be just as lovely on a fine day in the glorious sunshine.
We were greeted by both friendly and welcoming staff who invited us to share in the celebrations of their opening. Staff were well informed about the new building and all it has to offer. We were given a glass of champagne as we entered by a member of staff who made us feel very welcome and took a real interest in us as new customers in the building. As the evening went on that same member of staff was just as attentive with every individual customer she encountered. So with a glass of bubbles in hand we were able to casually see the results of the new refurbishment for ourselves.
Immediately we were drawn downstairs to see the newly refurbished function suite. It is tasteful and understated and a lovely space for functions like weddings and parties. Just off the room is a lovely outdoor space beautifully lit and an ideal space for mingling guests to get some fresh air. The room is furnished with its own well stocked bar. As my husband and I wandered round the beautifully dressed room it allowed us to reminisce about our own intimate wedding. I’m sure there no greater complement than the fact we both felt the room would have been beautiful for ours. Maybe when we’ve been married for 10 years we’ll be back to celebrate our vow renewal right there.
There are two very definitive spaces in the main body of the building. There is a restaurant area that is formally set for meals and then a more relaxed bar area with cushioned seating and a less atmospheric feel. The restaurant area is a charming intimate area with mood lighting and tables well-spaced allowing for intimate formal dining. The bar is relaxed and casual allow for easy socialising and gatherings of friends.
As we quietly people watched and enjoyed the ambience we were lucky enough to sample some of the delicious fare that the Grape and Olive has to offer. Chicken liver pate that melted in the mouth was an absolute delight. Crispy Calamari with a zingy sweet Chilli dip really tickled my taste buds. We were able to complete the tasting with the most delectable apple pie. We got to wash it all down with a gorgeous taste of Christmas in the form of Mulled Cider mmmmmmm. If these treats are any indication of what the Grape and Olive Cardiff can serve we hope we will be able to return very soon and review the delights of the full menu.
