When the opportunity arose to review a torch I knew this was one job I would receive bonus parent points from with my kids, particularly the eldest who is a Scout and a great lover of outdoor activities.
This torch is a handy size – not too big or too small (just over 16 cm long and 2 cm wide) – and has an incredible amount of power behind it. It is a practical black in colour and non-slip body. It also has a handy rear pocket clip so you can ensure it is always close to hand.
So my eldest son took the GP Discovery Flashlight C33 with him on a recent camp and was the envy of his friends due to its durability, compact size and amazing beam. As well as all the practical functions it is also lightweight and convenient to hand.
Priced at around £16 it would make an amazing Christmas gift for that special someone who has everything, due to the many uses it has – in the car, camping or an endless list of many other outdoor pursuits as way as general use within the home.
As the days get shorter every home needs to have a good all-purpose torch for times when you need to venture outside in dimly lit areas. Just the thing to pop in a kitchen drawer or utility room! You never know when it will be needed! Or how useful it will be when you do need it.
The torch is packaged with two of GP’s AA batteries (I love it when batteries are included) which run for up to 20 hours.
As well as having a 150 lumen light output and beam distance of 100 metres there is an addition side mounted COB LED worklight which comes in very handy, particularly the magnetic mount, allowing it to be used hands free!
The torch has two settings – floodlit or spotlight. My son reported that when tramping across the dark field in the middle of the night, to go to the loo, the floodlit setting was very handy to avoid any trips or falls. When he got back to the tent he quickly switched it to spotlight to find his way back to his bed. Very useful indeed!
The torch is very easy to switch on and off with one hand.
Obviously, getting so much use outdoor, the torch is bound to get knocked about a bit. Luckily it has a tough casing (impact resistant to 1 metre) that is made from durable aluminium and Is IPX4 water resistance. We found this was incredibly helpful when out on a rainy bonfire night camp and spent a night sleeping in (covered) hammocks.
Practical gifts are bound to come in handy and any receiver of this useful little gadget would be very appreciative to the giver. I like to think they would think off them fondly whenever they grab this torch for the many uses it has!
