I had been really looking forward to going to see Goldilocks and the three bears at the Waterside Theatre in Sale. Planning days out for the half term can usually become quite repetitive as my 5 year old is very active, but I couldn’t wait to see this show. My daughter has been learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears at school so it was a very appropriate timing.
On the morning of the show we were running quite late as we lost our car keys. However we set off and followed the satnav directions with ease. I had never visited this theatre before but I know there is a train station and good bus links nearby for those that don’t drive. Parking is accessible on the side roads.
I arrived at the theatre just as the show was starting and the very understanding usher led us to the top of the seating area so we did not disturb the rest of the theatre goers.
We were greeted with a delightful set which is probably one of the best sets I have ever seen. The children in the audience were aged between 2-6 and it completely set the scene for them.
The story was based in the eyes of the bears. They were going through their daily routine when they came home to see that someone had broken into their home and not only eaten all of baby bears porridge and broken his chair but they had slept in his bed!
The story is a lovely adaptation of the original tale, the puppetry is outstanding and 2 actors playing all parts are absolutely amazing. I heard people at the end saying that they did not realise it was only 2 actors in the whole show.
My daughter was amazed at how baby bear could ride a bike, it was genius (I think she may now want me to buy her a bike riding baby bear now though). She had such an amazing time (she even dressed up as goldilocks) and was talking about the show all day long to her grandparents.
We had a lovely day out and would definitely recommend this show and I would definitely return to Sale Waterside Theatre, it is a lovely place to visit.
