I was really pleased when chosen to go and see Go West for a review as I loved them back in the 80’s. They were appearing at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable. This theatre is in the town centre and close to bars and restaurants. It has its own car park which is a very short walk away.
We entered the theatre to find it really busy with people of all ages. We picked up our tickets without any fuss and made our way to the bar, which although it was busy, did not have to wait too long to be served.
We were shown to our seats which had a good view of the stage and waited for the show to start. At 7.30 Go West appeared on stage to rapturous applause. Go West was formed in 1982 by Richard Drummie and Peter Cox. They are joined on stage by keyboards, bass and lead guitarists and drums. They performed some of their hit songs with people singing along and dancing. It was just like listening to them on the radio, they are so good. There was quite a lot of interaction with the audience, which is always well received and the ladies with their ‘I Love Go West’ T-shirts on were singled out, which I would think, made their night. After a 30-minute interval they came back on stage. Everyone was on their feet and having a brilliant time while Go West belted out the hits Don’t Look Down, We Close our Eyes and the theatre was absolutely rocking to The King of Wishful Thinking. They ended the show with a standing ovation after coming back on stage to sing a last song.
I had a brilliant time and recommend you go if they are on anywhere near you.
