I was very excited to receive this package as my little one not only struggles with darkness at night time, bus is also obsessed by unicorns and rainbows at the moment.
It arrived presented in a beautiful box with a book and flashlight, we couldn’t wait to meet our unicorn.
Glimmer is a very soft, pink unicorn with a rainbow tail, glittery horn and stars all over her body, she is a nice size at 48cm in length and is easy to carry around.
We took her out of the box and placed her on the table under indoor light for 30 minutes as instructed on the packaging (we probably did a little longer as we left her there until bedtime).
When it was time for bed we were impressed with just how much she glowed in the dark. My little one went to bed very happy and reassured.
The accompanying book was beautifully illustrated with colourful pictures and told the tale of Glimmers adventure to Zoe’s house when she heard her crying one night. Glimmer is designed with children who are scared of the dark in mind, the book talks about being brave and strong and how nothing is wrong. In the story, Glimmer comes from a magical land called Snugshine where trees are like marshmallows, waterfalls flow with glitter in them and rainbows have magical Glimmer slides.
We read the book on the second night before bed and he enjoyed engaging with the story and the bright and colourful pages as we read it.
We also tested out the torch light and loved seeing the different scenes from the book projected onto the celling, it transported us into Glimmer’s world before bed. There are 24 magical scenes in total to explore.
My little one has taken Glimmer everywhere with him since she arrived, when we get home he puts on the light so he can get her ready for bed and then see her glow. It has really helped with our bedtime routine.
I really like the idea behind the book and the Unicorn, lots of children are afraid of the dark and I think having the combination of the toy, book and torch is a brilliant concept. My little one has now started sleeping with the door shut a little bit and hasn’t wanted the bathroom or corridor light on, as the glow on Glimmer has been enough for him. The interactive torch also creates calming special moments to enjoy with your child before bedtime.
It would make a great Christmas gift for any child that loves Unicorns, especially as it is packaged so beautifully.
I would rate it 5/5, I did initially think it was a bit pricey, however having used it more over the last few nights, I feel it’s really good value for money and has given my little one more confidence to sleep alone without lights on or doors open.
It is recommended for ages 3 to 13 years and is not suitable for children under 3 due to small parts. The packaging notes that it is particularly popular for children aged 5 to 8 years.
