GiftPup Personalised Red Rucksack Review

Reviewed by Melody Floyde

As my youngest son will be starting school in September we have had a new school bag on the shopping list, so I was really pleased to be asked to review the GiftPup Personalised Red Rucksack.

This is a bright red rucksack which retails at £14.99 and can be personalised with a number of options to choose from for both boys and girls. On the website there is the option to choose from either a photo upload rucksack where I could upload a picture of my son to be printed onto the rucksack, or several different printed designs.

I opted for the ‘football shirt design’ which has my son’s name and then a red football shirt, with a number printed on it – in this case I went for number 5 as my son will be 5 shortly after starting school and he doesn’t have a favourite football player yet.

When the rucksack arrived, very quickly after ordering, I was immediately impressed with the quality. It is made from a thick canvas style material with a shiny backing, which I assume will be showerproof should we get caught in a downpour on the way to school. The bag has a drawstring fastening with eyelets which seems to be fairly easy for a child to use and opens nice and wide for them to get things in and out. There is also a Velcro fastening on the back of the flap which is very easy to press shut and should help to stop things from falling out. I think that the bag will be very durable and hopefully will last a long time.

The straps are easily adjustable and go from fairly tight, ideal for a small child, to pretty long ideal for when mum or dad has to carry the bag. The straps seem to be nice and strong although I think I would have preferred it if they had been slightly padded, however I don’t anticipate my son will be carrying anything particularly heavy so it shouldn’t be a problem.

The personalisation is a nice touch and it will make it very easy for my son to find his bag on his peg when he’s at school and also means there is no danger of it getting mixed up and going home with the wrong child.

There are no washing instructions with the bag so it would have been handy to have an indication whether it can be washed or if it is just sponge clean. I think I will assume sponge clean only although I may well change my mind if it gets grubby after being thrown around the classroom and chance it in the washing machine.

Overall this is a nice product and ideal for a small child who is either starting school for the first time, or going back to school. There is enough room to fit in a few small things but it is not too big for them to manage to carry it. I personally would have favoured a slightly larger size as unfortunately I can’t fit all of my son’s PE kit in the bag so he will probably need an additional bag as well.

As for my son he is absolutely delighted with his new bag and was extra excited because it has his name on it. He can’t wait to start school and show off his cool rucksack to his new friends!

I would give this 4/5 only marking down because it is a bit too small for us and I would have liked a bit of padding on the straps, but this is a lovely bag and would make a great gift for a child who is starting school.
