GALT Horrible Science Germ Attack! The Game Review

If you’re looking for a fantastic fun filled game for all the family – this is it!

We have a whole host of GALT toys in our house; they are made to a high standard and are durable as well as being fun and educational. The children return to them again and again so it’s a good investment and a brand to look out for. GALT is also a trade name that I’ve found to be highly sort after and even when your children outgrow them, people are usually queuing up to purchase these second hand.

So when our parcel arrived containing Germ Attack! the new game in the Horrible Science range; we were all pretty excited! Our 6 year old loves all things gross and is fascinated by the human body so this was right up her street. The age range is given as 8+ so I was interested to know if this would be something only suitable for our 9 year old or whether we could all join in for some family fun.

The bright sturdy box screams out fun, excitement, challenges, germs and gore and with little yukky phrases scattered around, it definitely appeals to the kids humour. It is of course completely child friendly and the game engages their imagination from the onset and taps into their curiosities.

Science is completely cool so this is a brilliant way to combine learning with laughter.

The aim of the game essentially is to race around the body (the board) as a Scientist or as a Germ to see who wins; but it is cleverly designed to be amazing and immersive.

The instruction booklet tells the story and sets the scene for what role the players will have in the game. It is very informative in an age appropriate way and we were gripped. All the children wanted to be one of the Germ counters and it was so cool to have a name and know your purpose. Us grownups were the Scientists so our job was to stop the germs in their tracks.

The Scientist question cards are packed full of fascinating body facts to learn and marvel at, where as the Germ cards are crammed with questions on diseases and bugs. But land on the Medicine cards (huge pills!) and you may find yourself moving back a space or missing a go.

The box also comes with a sheet of character stickers to be used how you wish. This is a nice touch and makes you feel as though you are getting something extra.

This game has been played, packed away and got out again numerous times since we’ve had it and it never loses its charm. It’s the gift that keeps on giving and has such a wealth of knowledge hidden within those cards, that it has a long life to offer. Our children have come out with little facts that they learned from playing Germ Attack! so it rates high for me as an educational toy.

We all found it very enjoyable and there were many shrieks of laughter or mock recoil as we learned something new. It was most suited to our 6 and 9 year olds but our 4 year old loved being a part of it and specifically liked being in the intestines amongst the poo…

Visually the board game is busy, vibrant and enticing and I am completely impressed by how it works.
