We were super excited to have tickets for Frankie The Concert at the The Grove Theatre. The Grove Theatre in Dunstable is well situated with good parking available in close proximity, we haven’t been since before the pandemic, the collection of tickets went smoothly and the lady was super smiley and helpful. The bar staff as usual were under pressure, never enough staff here! On one of the hottest nights of the year so far it was a shame they didn’t have air conditioning, we could have done with it.
Frankie The Concert is a tribute to the one and only Frankie Valli. They sing a mixture of Frankie’s own songs and the legendary Four Seasons. Frankie arrived on stage with his band of musicians who were all amazing at what they do (especially in the heat!). I love the way the show opened with the narrator, giving you the details of how it all started way back when. The back story for not just Frankie but the rest of the Four Seasons and their sometimes tragic journey is a proper favourite of mine. Surely everyone loves the songs and the trademark dance of the band.
It was disappointing that the show wasn’t a sell out, post pandemic, Theatres up and down the country need our support, it we don’t buy tickets and go and see all these talented musicians, we very soon won’t have venues to visit. What better way to spend a Friday evening than letting a live band play you through the years of the superb Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. All the favourites were there of course they were, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Rag Doll, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Bye Bye Baby and so many more. My personal favourites are Who Loves You and My Eyes Adored You. There was most certainly all the hits you were expecting and more.
The supporting musicians were all brilliant and did a standout job. The first half wasn’t as good as the second but overall a great evening out, I love seeing everyone, young or old, tapping their feet or swaying in their seats, up on their feet. It’s all part of the live music experience and they thoroughly deserved to have everyone up and eating out of the palm of their hands. There is nothing quite like seeing someone perform live and I will never get bored of the Frankie Valli story and his amazing vocals. Not everyone can carry this off but at times the vocals of Frankie himself (Peter Sarsfield) were stunning. Hats off to Peter for delivering the show in sweltering conditions, god knows how hot it was up there on stage, we were dripping in our seats.
The Group are on a UK tour stopping next at The Brewhouse in Taunton. No elaborate set was needed, the music spoke for itself, if your looking for a great night out with great music, then this is the night for you ….. oh what a night was had by everyone!
