Frankie & Benny’s Bromborough Review

Last night my family and I attended Frankie & Bennys on the Croft Retail Park in Bromborough to sample their new menu. As this restaurant is located within a retail park there are plenty of parking spaces available.

Being a Friday evening the restaurant was quite busy but after waiting in a short queue we were soon shown to our table by a waitress. Shortly after our drinks orders were taken and we were given our menus. On looking through we were very impressed with the selection, particularly the wide range of dishes that had been added to the menu.

We had a bit of a wait until our food orders were taken, although that’s to be expected during busier times but it wasn’t long before our starters arrived, along with the kids dishes. I opted for zucchini frito, which were served along with salsa Verde mayo, which was delicious. My husband had gone for calamari which he also really enjoyed. The portion sizes were ideal for starters. The kids had fish fingers and chips and chicken bites and chips. These were served without the sides of vegetables we had ordered so after asking for them they unfortunately weren’t served until they had finished the rest of the meal.

For my main course I had New Jersey chicken, which was a chicken breast topped with a streaky bacon, pulled pork, BBQ and cheese sauces. This was served with onion rings, fries, coleslaw and corn on the cob. It was a large portion which I struggled to finish. It was nice enough although the chicken was a little dry. My husband had the De Niro burger, a huge burger topped with meatballs and bolognaise sauce. This was a much bigger hit than my choice.

Partly because of the large portions of main courses and the rather slow service we decided against desserts. The children had desserts as part of the meal deal so they enjoyed an ice cream sundae and fruit salad.

One area I could not fault was that both the restaurant area and toilet facilities appeared very clean and tidy. Which I was impressed with given it was so busy.

The bill came to £62 for our family of four, including a couple of sneaky beers, which is probably around what you would expect to pay. However for restaurants within this price range it wouldn’t be my first choice.  The staff were friendly enough and the food was pretty good but with choosing a busy period to eat some of the extra touches were missing, such as crayons and a colouring sheet for the kids to keep them occupied while waiting which would have been very welcomed as they became quite restless with longer waits than usual. All in all I thought it was quite average.
