Food Produced in Kent Review

Reviewed by Katie Allen

My father-in-law’s family are from Kent and whilst I’ve only been there a few times to visit my husband’s Grandfather I’ve always been intrigued as to what the “Garden of England” can produce.

I received some great Kent goodies including: Spice Kent Apple Juice from Owlet, Christmas Ale from Faversham Brewery, Dressing, Marinade and Vinaigrette from Kentish Condiments, Romney Marsh Wools Shampoo, Hand & Body lotion and Soap and a cute bottle of Cranberry & Gin from Anno Distillers.

The Romney Marsh Wools products used their flock of 1000 Romney Ewes and small flock of Merinos to create the beautiful packaged products. The family run company have been farming on the Romney Marsh for over 130 years so you can trust they know their stuff!

Similarly well established is Owlet Fruit Juice who have been growing fruit and making juices for over 30 years. They were one of the first apple growers to diversify into fruit juice and have recently won the 2018 Taste of Kent Award as well as the National Apple Juice Competition in 2018.

Another award winner is Anno Distillers Cranberry & Gin. They are Kent’s first micro-distillery and all their products are distilled in “Patience” their beautiful copper-pot still.

All of these products are beautifully designed and packaged meaning with the addition of a hamper or hessian bag it’ll make a nostalgic Christmas present for my in-laws who now live abroad. I imagine Christmas Ale is hard to find in the South of France and the Caramelised Shallot & Cider Vinegar Dressing, Garden Herbs Vinaigrette and Honey & Mustard Dressing will go nicely with their home grown veg from their potager. The Spiced Apple Juice will be lovely at Christmas warmed too.

Make sure you check out for a buying guide to Kentish products and if you live close by visit a farmer’s market where you can meet the producers and sample their wares.
