It was with great pleasure that we attended the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury to watch the musical Flashdance last night (Monday 20 November 2017) with my 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter on behalf of What’s Good To Do. Upon entering the foyer/reception to collect our tickets we were greeted by very friendly staff. A lovely joyous atmosphere was present with everyone excited to see the show. Upon taking our seats, we noticed there were only an odd few empty seats in site, the theatre was full to the brim.
It was many many years ago I watched the film back in the eighties, which was such a success at the time. It really didn’t matter if you didn’t know the storyline (neither of my children had seen the film) this didn’t matter in the slightest. The audience was in for a real treat.
Starring Joanne Clifton (Strictly Come Dancing champion) as Alex, and Ben Adams (finalist in Celebrity Big Brother) as Nick Hurley, what an incredible perfect pair. Both Joanne and Ben, and all the cast, were brilliant. This is one musical I would watch again and again. The outfits took me back and were spot on. The story follows Alex, a welder, who is determined to become a professional dancer.
The 2 acts were illustrated beautifully, there was so much energy from everyone who took part. The dancing blew us away the entire evening, it was absolutely fantastic and on pointe throughout, breath-taking! Choreography simply amazing and some great singing throughout. The audience was glued to their seats the whole evening. All the classic songs from the show was sung, I was not disappointed as all the hits popped up including Gloria, I love Rock and Roll and What a Feeling, all smash hits back in the eighties. Most of the audience got up and clapped, sang and danced at the end of the show including me and my kids, lots of happy smiles in the audience, great vibes.
All in all, a very creative show with extremely talented cast (too many to mention but all fantastic), crew, creative team, lighting and band. It was obvious a lot of directing/planning and hard-work had been put into pulling this musical off.
What a fantastic way to spend a cold normally uneventful Monday evening, it felt like a Friday night the start of the weekend as there was such a buzz, I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommend.
Tickets cost from £20.40 to £56.90 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
