We travel a lot, so I was really pleased to receive the Fjall Raven Vardag Pocket Crossbody Bag to review. The compact bag might be small but it’s the perfect organiser bag that is just as handy weaving through airport queues as it is heading out for a quick dog walk around the block.
At first glance it doesn’t look much but that simplicity is exactly what makes it so practical. There are two zipped compartments that have enough room for all the bits I reach for constantly when travelling like my phone, passport, boarding passes, travel documents, tissues and purse. Rather than having a zip on the top of the bag the two pockets are accessed from the front and the back which means when you are wearing the bag crossbody style one of the pockets is against your body making it ideal for keeping valuables safe and out of reach from wandering hands in busy stations or crowded markets.
Both compartments are the same size, and as the zip is at the top of the pocket there’s no wasted space. Inside the front pocket is a key clip which is perfect for keeping my keys and eliminates my normal rummaging around for keys. My purse, phone and other essentials fit nicely, keeping everything organised and easy to grab when I need them.
The adjustable shoulder strap is quite thin but as the bag is quite small it is comfortable to wear. At full length the bag sits comfortably on my hip and as long as I don’t pack it full it’s thin enough to tuck discreetly under a jacket or jumper, making it a brilliant for travelling and giving an extra layer of security to prevent pickpockets in busy places.
The zips on the bag open smoothly even when worn across the body, which is handy when you’re juggling coffee, tickets and children! It’s also compact enough to pop inside my rucksack or shoulder bag when travelling so I can keep the important things I need together and ready to grab when I need them.
Of course, its usefulness doesn’t stop once you’re home. It’s just as perfect for everyday outings, from walking the dog with your keys, phone and treats safely zipped away, to running errands hands free without needing to carry a larger bag.
Made from durable G 1000 HeavyDuty S, a blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton, with a recycled polyamide lining, it feels robust enough to handle the bumps and scrapes of life on the move. The bag measures 16cm high, 25cm wide and 3cm deep and weighs 90g with a volume of 1.5 litres and whilst it shouldn’t be washed or dry cleaned, you can give it a quick spot clean with a brush and some lukewarm water if it gets grubby. As we get a lot of rain in the UK I was pleased to discover that you can improve the weather resistance with Fjallraven’s Greenland Wax, which is made from high quality paraffin and beeswax and once rubbed on will help make it water resistant.
Overall, it’s a well designed, practical little bag that keeps your hands free and your essentials secure whether you’re exploring a new city or simply strolling through the park. Having had a look at the Fjall Raven website I’m quite taken with the Farden Crossbody which I think would be perfect as hand luggage and the perfect travelling companion to the Vardag Pocket. With Mother’s Day just around the corner I think it’s time to start dropping a few hints to my children!!
