As a family, we love to play lots of games together, especially on a rainy Sunday afternoon! So when we heard about Fact or Fake? Ultimate, by Bear Faced Games, we were excited to give it a try! It says age 7+ on the box, but our children are 10, 8 and 5, and the youngest still really enjoyed it as you can always guess the answer if you don’t know, as it’s simply true or false answers! This isn’t just another trivia game, but much more engaging, and fast-paced keeping everyone on their toes! The whole time my family were laughing, guessing, and occasionally shouting over each other trying to be the first one to answer!

The idea is simple but brilliant. The base speaks clearly, asking some strange, funny, or even unbelievable statements, and the players must decide as quickly as possible, whether each one is fact or fake. There are over 1,000 statements covering everything from animals and inventions to songs and history, so there is something for everyone to be an expert on! One moment we were deciding whether a flamingo is born pink, and the next whether bananas glow under UV light. We learnt a lot whilst playing this too!

This game is made different because of the electronic Game Master. It states the questions, keeps score, and says it even adjusts the difficulty based on how players are doing. Using this game master meant everyone could join in without people having to take it in turns to read the cards, and my youngest who can’t read very well yet also being able to play. They also enjoyed playing it by themselves to see how many points they could get! It was a little addictive in wanting to beat their own scores though.

The game’s design cleverly balances speed and knowledge, so even if you’re not great at trivia, you can still win by reacting quickly and having a guess! The only downside to this game is that because you’re all trying to get there first, sometimes one person will press their colour a fraction before someone else does, but the other person will have pressed the fact or fake button first and so can lose the point for the other person without trying. That can obviously lead to a few arguments!

The game lasts around 20 minutes, which is a great length for keeping everyone engaged. There is barely any setup time, you simply pick your colour, press your button, and you’re off. The voice is clear and easy to understand, although the music did get a little annoying!

Overall, I think Fact or Fake? Ultimate is a great addition to any family’s game cupboard. It’s accessible to all ages, educational, and genuinely fun making us laugh a lot and learning new things. The quality of the machine seems robust so we will be able to play this for many years to come, and I think it would make a great Christmas gift for families.
