I was thrilled to get the opportunity to review a tent. This year I have re-discovered my love of camping, when my children were younger it was the most affordable way to have a holiday. Now the kids have flown the nest, I want to explore more of the UK and enjoy weekend breaks away with my husband, and maybe the kids will join us with their families too.

I think the Easy Camp Tent, Huntsville 500, Excursion Range, from Outdoor World Direct, will be the perfect one.

From the outset communication from Outdoor World Direct was excellent. They emailed to inform me that the order was ready for delivery and the firm they would be using was DPD, DPD followed up with an email for delivery the next day, giving a very precise one-hour timeslot, which I really appreciated, they also gave me options should this not be convenient.

In anticipation of its arrival, I referred to Outdoor World Directs website and found a very useful video of how to erect and dismantle the actual model of the tent. I found this had extremely useful tips, such as staking out the main body of the tent first, which I had not previously known.

It arrived at the expected time, in a well packaged cardboard box. The three main components were, the outer tent, the inner bedroom compartment and the groundsheet. Also included were colour coded poles and very sturdy tent pegs, both in their own pouches, also there was a material dividing wall that can be attached if you want to divide the bedroom space.

I was keen to find out how easy, the Easy Camp really is. And I have to say it was ‘easy’. My initial thoughts were, the entire tent in one bag is quite heavy, at 12kg, it is fine to just get out of your boot and then pitch, but if you need to walk any distance with it, I will split it into two loads, use a trolley or ensure I have help.

Inside the main bag are attached instructions and having seen the video we laid it out, staked the base with the tent pegs then slotted the poles into the corresponding inserts, this I did find easier than previous tents that I had erected, in the past, as they are only threaded through a short top portion, the poles have fixed bends that indicate the roof and then clipped externally to the poles. With only three poles, it was up in no time. With good head height throughout.

The bedroom is easy to attach and has two doorway options. It is reportedly able to sleep five and is a spacious bedroom, but I intend to only use as a couple, so perfect for our use. I think, yes you could get a double and a single bed, so ok if you have little children, the divider will give the illusion of privacy but it’s not ideal.

The groundsheet in the bedroom is integrated into the room, but in the living area it is attached and velcroid these match up perfectly, my only concern is the strip across the entrance may prove problematic overtime and could tear.

There are several air vents and a large window on one side, with a cover and two smaller window inserts at the front, letting in plenty of light, whilst the bedroom is nice and dark, hopefully allowing a few much-needed lie-in’s.

Overall, this is a quality tent, made from sturdy materials, with lots of great features. I am looking forward to many happy years of camping adventures.
