Côte Sevenoaks is situated on London Road in the centre of Sevenoaks. It is almost opposite the Stag Theatre and within 5 minutes’ walk of the main town centre car parks and the bus station. The building itself had previously been used as a Thai restaurant for a brief period of time and prior to that it was a pub dating back, I believe, to the 18th century.

I was greeted in an extremely friendly manner and I explained that my companions were a few minutes behind me; I was shown to a choice of tables to await their arrival. The restaurant is very spacious with table sizes varying from 2 to 6 people, either with chairs and/or banquette seating. There was an additional seating area which is used at busier periods – Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday lunchtime, and a small side room with a table seating 10 (or possibly 12 at a squash) for a more private occasion. Although it was Monday lunchtime the restaurant was reasonably busy with a mixture of families, ladies who lunch, and business lunches.

We chose to order from the A La Carte menu which was extensive and with the dishes, of course, being traditionally French. We had also been given the lunch and early evening menu. This was extremely reasonably priced at 2 courses for £9.95 and 3 courses for £11.90 with a choice of 4 items per course, and is available Monday to Friday from 12.00 to 7.00pm.

We ordered drinks first – I was driving so had a soft drink, my daughter had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and my husband a glass of Merlot, both of which they assured me were very good. For our meals I selected crab mayonnaise, followed by spinach and mushroom crêpes with additional side dishes of frites and French beans, and crème caramel for desert. My husband chose warm Roquefort salad, followed by roast pork belly, which came with a potato, crème fraiche and chive purée, and caramelised apples and calvados jus, and an additional side dish of glazed carrots with parsley, and followed that with coupe noir (vanilla ice cream with warm dark chocolate sauce). My daughter chose goats cheese tartine, followed by salmon hollandaise and decided on crêpe with grand marnier for dessert.

All the food was excellent, well cooked and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive, helpful, welcoming and friendly. The gap between each course was just sufficient to allow us to be ready for the next course. We thoroughly enjoyed a lovely, leisurely lunch. I would highly recommend Côte Sevenoaks and cannot wait for an excuse to go there again!
