This 60 piece set of colourful, super magnetic glittery rods and balls give endless construction possibilities, starting from basic shapes for younger children – box says from 3 years.  As the child grows they can progress to 3D shapes and models of objects.  Great for concentration skills, imagination and building patience and learning about polarity.  A toy that could also be used by adults – could help with mental health.

The box contains 3 small storage boxes for the different colour and size rods and the balls.  There are also two square and two pentagonal bases to enable sturdy building for the 3D models.  All the rods are made from recycled plastic – great for the environment.

Its great that it can be added to with other Geomag sets to make bigger and better structures.

My two grandchildren aged 4 and 8 absolutely loved it and the set kept them engaged for ages trying new things, seeing how many rods would stick together, how many balls they could hold on one or two rods.  My 4 year old grandson does not usually sit and play with things for more that five minutes, but this kept him occupied and interested for 20 minutes and then he went back to it later.  He was very proud of himself for making shapes and telling me what they were – really great for him as he has just started school.  My 8 year old granddaughter was using the leaflet to make the more complex 3D structures and again was very happy to achieve – she persevered when they broke apart.  She also thought she could make a skipping rope – didn’t quite work.

This is a brilliant educational toy – giving children the opportunity to explore maths, science and engineering.  My husband found the toy very intriguing and was happy helping the kids but also building with the magnets on his own.  He said it was a relaxing set to use.  On the other hand at first I found it quite frustrating as the magnets are really strong and don’t always stick together as you want, or they stick to other rods and balls while you are in the middle of building – I think this set will help me become more patient!  My son in law was quite put out when the kids wouldn’t let him join in – he found it intriguing.

I asked the grandchildren what they thought of the set –
Age 8 – “This is fascinating. I love it”
Age 4 – “I love it”

What a great gift for children of all ages or adults who enjoy making things.  With more sets the opportunities of what to build would become endless and keep kids entertained for hours.  I would definitely recommend this product as a gift for kids of any ages, or for an adult who likes building things.
