This is a 2 DVD set of the 1960’s sitcom starring Sid James, Bill Kerr and Liz Fraser.

This set contains all 6 episodes from Series 1 and the only known remaining episodes from series 2 and 3 (2 episodes from each).

As I had never seen this series before (long before my time) I wasn’t sure what to expect but as I have watched Sid James in the Carry On films I knew it would be funny, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Based in a Soho café called Charlie’s Nosh Bar Sid is a self-employed layabout conman who loves gambling. Along with his sidekick Bill they are always losing money gambling, pulling scams and cons and forever getting into trouble with the police. He has been engaged to his fiancée, Liz, for 7 years and is always popping round to her club to borrow money for his gambling debts, cons gone wrong or to pay his bail money and fines.

It is very enjoyable and funny with dodgy waiter races, making and selling his own elixir and cigarettes and pretending to get robbed when he gambles away £300.

Filmed in black and white this is a great British comedy and fun to watch.

I would recommend this to all lovers of British comedy.

Rating: 4/5
