The Stockport Plaza is located in Mersey Square in Stockport town centre, across from the Merseyway Shopping Centre. It is about five minutes’ walk from Stockport Train Station, next to Stockport Bus Station and across the road from the taxi rank on Chestergate.

Designated on-street parking is available in most of the streets surrounding the Plaza and this is free of charge after 6pm. Parking is also available on the Princes Street Car Park (SK1 1TS) or Stockport Exchange Station (SK1 1SW) adjacent to Stockport Train Station.

There are several places to eat around Stockport should you want to have a preshow meal.

The theatre has just undergone extensive refurbishment to take it back to a similar look and feel from the theatre in 1932. They have a grand organ which is played before the show and in the interval the kids loved this and were asking loads of questions about it.

On arrival at the theatre we located our tickets very easily with direction from the staff who are all volunteers at the theatre. They were extremely polite and helpful.

We took our seats in the stalls a few minutes before the show was going to start and the seats were spacious and comfortable and we had a great view of the stage.

The facilities were nice and clean and the toilets were clean and we didn’t have to queue for very long.

Refreshments on offer were reasonably priced and we had ice cream at the interval which the kids had been looking forward to. They were also selling light up spinning wands and light saber like toys which lots of children had bought.

The show has some famous stars in the cast, Ted Robbins, Crissy Rock and Gary Damer, We didn’t recognise the names at first but we did recognise them when they came on stage.

The show took a while to get started and there seemed to be a lot of filling in between scenes with jokes (some of which were not really for children and more for the adults and the kids just looked blank at me), this for me made the length of the show about 30 minutes too long especially for younger children as they seemed to lose interest at these points in the show.

The actual scenes especially the ones with the dancers were lively and loud and very upbeat they really got your attention. The story was easy to follow and the characters were played very well. Buttons played by Gary Damer was extremely funny in parts and he really made the kids get involved and they reacted to him every time he came on stage.

As mentioned above for me the show was just a little bit to long for a children’s show, my children are 9 and 6 and they struggled to keep their attention span for the show and were ready to leave when it finished. There were lots of smaller children at the theatre and they just lost interest and were messing about talking running up the isles etc… and this for me ruined it and didn’t show the respect the actors deserved especially at the end people were stood up popping coats on and exiting during the finale song. There was one large group of people who exited about 15 minutes before the show ended (I can only presume they had a coach booked) and this drew the attention of all the stalls from the show to them which I thought was a shame as the show was really good. I think if they reduced the fill times and some of the jokes this could have been avoided.

Overall summary for me is a great show when the story is being told just needed less jokes and what for me where filling in gaps were just one actor stood on stage talking and not really anything to do with the story of Cinderella example being having the whole theatre singing I am the music man, although great interaction with the audience for me this just drew the length of an already long show out.
