Jojo Maman Bebe Peter Rabbit Pull-along Toy Review

Reviewed by Jo Hardy

Children’s character toys all come and go but the popularity of Beatrix Potter’s stories and animal characters has never stopped. I remember loving all her stories when I was young and here I am reviewing one of the same characters with the help of my great niece, April, who is 14 months old. They have been updated slightly so although I can clearly recognise the old characters from my childhood these are a more modern version.

This lovely pull-along toy is available in two versions: “Flopsy” Bunny is the female version wearing a pink jacket and Peter Rabbit is the male version wearing a blue jacket with a little carrot embroidered on the side. I received the Peter version for this review.

It arrived in a plastic posting bag and did look a bit squashed when I removed it, but it soon sprung back and sat very firmly on the frame. Initially I thought the toy a bit on the small side and much smaller than I thought it looked in the picture on the website, but when April started playing with it I realised it was the perfect size for the hands of a small child. Although April could not yet get to grips with the idea of pulling it along, we had great fun rolling it along the floor and the wheels worked very well on the lounge carpet, she also liked picking it up by the ears. As she develops, I am sure she will master the pulling along technique.

The pull along cord was quite short so would not be a choking hazard. I must add that like most children she also enjoyed playing with the cardboard box the toy was stood on.

The rabbit was made from a lovely soft plush fabric in muted tones of blue and honey. The wooden frame and wheels were very solid which looked like they would stand up to many hours of play. When not being played with, the toy is such good quality it will look lovely on a shelf in the nursery as a decor item. There are lots of complementary Peter Rabbit and Flopsy bunny items available on the Jojo Maman Bebe website, and a few general Beatrix Potter items featuring many of her animals also some very cute themed clothing for boys, girls and unisex. The toy is suitable from birth upwards so would make a lovely gift for any new baby.

There is a second Peter Rabbit movie which will be released before Easter, if it is as good as the first one, Peter Rabbit is going to be a very prominent character around Easter, and this would make a very good Easter gift. While it might cost a bit more than the traditional chocolate egg it will certainly last longer and can stay in the family for future generations to enjoy. I like to think that one day April will share this toy with her children and that the Beatrix Potter stories will still be popular then.
