Celebrate Mother’s Day with Carluccio’s in Derby Review

Reviewed by Debbie Lowndes

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending Carluccio’s in Derby located within the Intu Centre for a review of their evening menu. Our review covered a three course meal with wine, which would make an excellent Mother’s Day gift.

Our table was booked for 6pm on Sunday 19th March 2017. We parked within the Intu Centre in Derby, the parking was reasonably priced for a Sunday evening at £2.00 for two hours. We made our way to restaurant and waited to be seated. Upon arrival, we spotted that there were two seating areas one within the restaurant and one located outside within the Intu Centre. As the restaurant is located within the shopping centre the downside is the view of the escalators and shop window front, but to be honest once you start enjoying your food and the atmosphere the surroundings become a distance memory. There was a wide and varied selection on the menu.

The waiting on staff did not delay in asking what we required to drink. My husband had a beer and I opted for wine, both of which were reasonably priced. Starters offered the option of individual or sharing platters. I opted for squid, I have never had this before and it was presented nicely and I thoroughly enjoyed this. My husband option for fried ravioli and he also thoroughly enjoyed.

Staff were helpful, polite, accommodating and friendly. They offered us water for the table. The waitress service was excellent and we were not kept waiting at any point, even though the restaurant was quite busy for a Sunday evening.

For mains, we both opted for Chicken Milanese; a flattened chicken breast, crusted in rosemary breadcrumbs and fried, served with baby gem, mixed leaves and baby plum tomatoes in a mustard dressing. I had mine with roast potatoes and my husband had his with salad, both of which were full of flavour. We had garlic bread as a side and this was truly delicious.

We also over indulged and opted for a dessert; my husband opted for the lemon tart whilst I opted for the vanilla ice cream with a shot of expresso and liquor, wow what can I say there is nothing as good as Italian ice cream – truly scrumptious!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxing, welcoming and friendly. The decor was modern and sophisticated. The lighting was cleverly thought about and ticked every box. The environment was clean and hygienic. The area was nice to dine within. The kitchen area was visible to diners. Tables were well stocked with cutlery and condiments. The restaurant offered a special menu after 6pm each evening whereby you could have two courses for £16.99. I felt this to be a competitive price for the area. The food we ate was freshly prepared and could not be faulted within any way. The wine selection was satisfactory. The restaurant offered a selection of Italian gifts, supplies and cookery books, all of which were reasonably priced (you can view these on their website shop, including items for Mother’s Day and Easter).

We also received a complementary glass of lemoncello – a delicious added extra to end the evening. We could not fail the staff, food or environment in any way. The new menu selection was great and the restaurant offers a wide range to cater for every taste. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen onto the tables looked delicious and was presented to high standards. Our food was hot and delivered with a prompt service.

Carluccio’s in Derby would be great for a Mother’s Day (Sunday 26 March 2017) treat to remember, go on spoil your mother!  You will not be disappointed, the food is freshly prepared, simple and full of flavour.

We had a great evening, thank you Carluccio’s.
