Remembering watching Catch Phrase as child I was thrilled to be picked to review the new edition of the game.
The game arrived quickly and well packaged, the box was bright and appealing, the children noticed Stephen Mulhern right away and recognizing him from the new TV show they were very excited.
We decided to play the game with two children aged 9 and 11 years old, they were able to understand the rules without problem and set up the game. As adults we struggled more than the children with the questions which the children really enjoyed. There was a good mix of questions and puzzles ranging from easy to difficult so there is something for everyone. Unlike the show everyone could play until the end which kept the children engaged and excited.
The game iself is made up of 3 rounds: Individual Round, Rapid Fire Round and Super Catch Phrase Round. After round 3 the player to the left of the host becomes the new host and this continues until every player has had a chance of being host. The winner is the one who has collected most money after every player has been the host.
The children also enjoyed winning and collecting money and liked to compare how much each other had, I felt this was a simple fun way to learn to understand amounts.
I felt the game was an excellent way to learn to take turns, new skills and have fun whilst really using their brain. It was also nice to find something that engaged the children that wasn’t a video game or a computer and meant we were all able to spend time together.
I also felt the game was aimed at the right age group, our 9 year old was able to understand the game and the rules well but I did felt it might have been a bit of a struggle for a younger child to be able to play the game without an adult to explain.
A wonderful way to spend a few hours and would make a fantastic Christmas present from everyone aged 8 to 100!
Suitable for 2 to 4 players, aged 8+.
