Captain No Beard Stuck in the Doldrums: A Lesson In Sharing Review

Reviewed by Emma Booth

Stuck in the Doldrums: A Lesson in Sharing is book 3 in the Captain No Beard series by Carol P . Roman. I received this book to read to my daughter who is nearly 5 just by looking at the front cover she could tell it was going to be full of adventure so we sat down to read this book that tells a tale of Captain No Beard who gets marooned on an island with his crew, Polly Parrot, Mongo the Monkey, Fribbit the Frog, Linus the Lion and first mate Hallie. At first they happily play together in the sand until Captain No Beard begins to get bossy and soon finds himself alone as his crewmates go elsewhere to play but he soon finds that he needs his friends and shipmates help when a giant squid attacks.

This is a beautiful tale that teaches how important it is to work together, share and take turns as well as teaching good morals. The story is also full of fun and adventure and beautifully illustrated.

This book belongs to a series of Captain No Beard stories written by award winning author Carol P. Roman who is a former teacher and has a fantastic ability to tap into a child’s imagination. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the story and I would highly recommend this book to anyone, it makes a perfect bedtime story.
