I am an absolute gadget junkie but for some reason I do not have a printer. I used to own a cheap one years ago but my daughter decided to stuff orange peel down the paper insert and ruined it and we never replaced it. I have always got by using the printer at work or going to my mum’s and using up all her in and paper (much to my dad’s annoyance). However, working from home the last year has really made me realise how much we really needed a printer. We did purchase one by another brand, but it was not very good, so we returned it.
When I was given the chance to review the Canon Pixma TS705 from CartridgePeople.com, I was very excited. My mum has always owned Canon printers and has never had a problem with them and swears by their reliability. The amount that I have used her printer in the past and it is still going strong with years of overuse.
I was especially looking forward to trying a new printer out as over the lockdown I have started crafting for personal use and for some friends making labels and one think that I had not ventured into was printing and cutting as I did not have a printer accessible to me. My husband also has a passion for photography, and I would like to print some of his beautiful pictures onto photopaper to hang on my walls. These things are something that can be made possible with the Canon Pixma TS705.
Cartridge People were quick to ship the printer. It arrived well packaged and promptly by courier and a couple of days later some of their own brand ink, which was compatible with the Canon Pixma TS705 arrived, along with some printing paper, again well packaged and they even gifted a pen with their logo and contact number on (I’m a sucker for a free pen).
I was a little anxious about setting the printer up as I wanted to connect it to multiple devices eventually to allow use from my phone, home laptop and work laptop. I decided that I would do the setup from my phone and once I had unpacked and inserted the 5 ink cartridges, I scanned the QR code on the instruction manual to allow me to download the CANON print app. This app then guided me through the setup quite easily. I did get a little confused at one point, but I was able to backtrack and get back to where I needed to be.
The app allows you to print from your device by accessing your images and documents. Once you have selected your images you can go into print settings to select the type of paper you are printing, the size of the paper, whether you want a border or not and the colour mode you would like to print in. When you are happy, press print and watch the printer work its magic, printing your family snaps from your phone to stunning, well executed images on paper. Once I was happy with the quality and effectiveness of the photo prints, I decided to print some documents from my phone files. I was surprised that the printer printed double sided and was extremely quick too. For a printer on the lower end of price, I was not expecting it to print double sided.
I also figured out that I did not have to always go through the app to print and I could click on an image on my photo app and go straight to print. I found this way easier as I could navigate through my images in full size before deciding if that was the one or not. This took me straight to the print section of the canon app with the print settings. I found this a really good tool for choosing prints.
Set up from the laptop was easy enough using the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth by adding the printer in printer settings. It was super quick and easy and was setup in no time at all. Print quality for my work reports was excellent. One of the things that the printer does not have is the ability to scan or copy but this is something that I rarely do so I would not really benefit from having this option. However, in the emerging world of technology, I find that being able to take a picture image on your phone and then printing out replaces the need for a scanner or photocopier. If I ever need to scan a document, I would use this option as it is far quicker than spending hours scanning in sheets of paper into the printer.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with the quality and ease of use of this printer. It has exceeded my expectations in every way. I have so many ideas and plans that I want to try out with it for the future. I am very excited and happy to have been gifted this printer. I would recommend it as it is extremely affordable, easy to use and of an excellent quality. I am very impressed with the Cartridge People inks and how cost effective they are in comparison to the Canon branded ones. When the inks along with the starter set that I received in the box have ran out, I will not hesitate to order my replacement cartridges with them.
I would rate this printer 5/5. It is perfect for what I need and fits perfectly under my desk, in its own little space. It will certainly make working from home much easier.
