Before having children, I was a keen camper. We would go camping all around the south of England every weekend through summer. Since having children, I have not been camping and I was almost dreading the thought of being away from home comforts with my two daughters. I was positively surprised, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Moreton Campsite – what a brilliant weekend!

Upon arrival, we were impressed with the signage of the campsite – it’s difficult to miss the entrance! I was also pleased there was a local Co-Op nearby, which we drove past on the way. I was greeted upon arrival and my pitch had been reserved. The staff were very flexible, as my mother had booked to join us for a night in her motorhome and requested a pitch next to us, which they were happy to accommodate. They gave me an information leaflet about the site which included all the information I needed. We then followed a friendly member of staff to our pitch, which was lovely and flat. There is also a 5mph, one way road around the site, which was reassuring as parents to young children who may potentially run off!  He showed us where to pitch and made suggestions regarding the evening sun. This is typical of camping and caravan club campsites – many request exactly where you pitch your tent/motorhome. Once we had set up, we realised we hadn’t pitched where we were supposed to, but this didn’t seem to be a problem with the staff. I was also a little confused about where to park our car, but this didn’t seem to matter either. There is Wi-fi available on site, which was tested by my mother – she found it to be flawless and quite fast.

There was a very friendly atmosphere on site, and we chatted to the families either side of us. We did feel a little out of place in a tent, as there were only a handful of tents amongst a whole field of motorhomes and caravans, however this wasn’t a problem! We struggled to get the tent pegs into the ground properly – it was very hard ground, but I wasn’t too worried as the weather was pleasant and we weren’t expecting a hurricane! Once my mother and I had set up our pitches, we lit the barbeque and started cooking. As soon as it started to get dark, the noise volume on site reduced. I have been to camp sites where this doesn’t happen, but it seemed that people were very respectful of each other.

The general cleanliness and condition of the site was brilliant. The toilets were in fantastic condition and the showers were some of the best campsite showers I had ever tried. There is a coin operated hairdryer too. Beside the toilets are the washing up stations. These were under cover, so not a problem if it is raining, and the hot water is very hot! Beside the washing up stations is the drinking water tap – conveniently located! The staff always seemed to be doing something – walking round with tools or cutting the grass.

My 3 year old was very impressed with the children’s play park, swings and sand pit – as were we! Like the rest of the campsite, the play park was in fantastic condition and very clean. It is perfect for children 3 years upwards. The camp shop wasn’t particularly well stocked, but did sell ice creams which were delicious! Unfortunately they don’t take cards, and we didn’t bring cash, so we had to return to the tent to rummage for some coins. There is a book hire/swap system in reception, which is fantastic for some relaxing entertainment if you have forgotten or run out of holiday reading!

One downside I noticed was the lack of bins. The only bins are located at the entrance to the campsite, which was a little irritating with two children. The flip side to this is that it did cut down potential for rummaging animals in the night, and flies in hot weather, so I see the logic in the placement of bins!

Overall, we had a fantastic first camp with our children and will be returning to Moreton next year!
