With Valentine’s Day just around the corner it was nice to be able to sample the CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé. I do love some bubbles especially for a special occasion. I find some Bubbles quite dry and sour so it was great to try a new version.
The CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé 2021 arrived very quickly and was well packaged. All the packaging was cardboard except for a small amount of bubble wrap to protect the glass. The majority of the packaging can be recycled which is great.
When I pulled the bottle from the packaging I was impressed with how fancy it looked. It is pretty standard bottle shape but the product does look like a premium product. The bottle is clear with pink labels. The CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé will make a great addition to a Valentine’s dinner table or as a gift for that someone special.
We chilled the CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé before opening it. The bottle had a traditional cork. There is always something nice about popping a bottle of bubbles, even if I am a little apprehensive about doing it myself. It was quite easy to pop. I hate those sparkling wine corks which get stuck or fire themselves across the room. That was not a problem.
The CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé is advertised as a light, aromatic crémant made in the traditional method from Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Crunchy strawberry and raspberry flavours with a touch of biscuit, fine bubbles filling the mouth, balanced acidity and a rounded finish.
The grapes for the bubbles are manually harvested in small boxes, pressed and then settled. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place temperatures controlled between 16-18°C. This is then followed by a second fermentation in bottles for 11 months before disgorging and dosage.
Brut rosé wine is sparkling but not the sweetest wine. Brut is the French word for dry.
My family and I shared the CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé. It was Chinese New Year so we had it with our take away. We all agreed that it had a lovely taste. It was a nice pink colour with small but not overpowering bubbles. The CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé had a nice light flavour, although it is supposed to be dry it was not sour and had a sweet flavour. The description provided by Ocado is pretty spot on.
The CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé would be great as an aperitif, in cocktails or with desserts. The alcohol content is 11.5%.
Rating: 5/5. The CALVET Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé had a nice flavour and was very drinkable. The product is reasonably priced, not the cheapest, but definitely worth the money. This would be a great gift for a loved one or just to drink with the girls.
RRP: £12
