Eating out at a good Indian restaurant is always a treat. Add to that an original and quite astonishing building and you have all the ingredients for a memorable occasion.

Easily justifying its status as a multi-award winning eatery, the Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford really is an establishment like no other. Located in a stunning Grade II listed chapel, with the wonderful interior beautifully adapted you cannot fail to be surprised and impressed. From the wonderful stain glass windows to the fantastic wall paintings this is a restaurant that is a very special place.

We attended the launch of the new corporate menu, with one part of the ‘venue’ set-up to show off it’s versatility as a great place to have meetings as well as business lunches and dinners.

The staff are all really friendly and helpful and the food – well what can I say – it is absolutely fantastic. Canapés were offered around – just so delicious it was hard to resist and fill-up before the main course! I particularly liked the Zafrabu Nurgh Tikka – breast of chicken pieces marinated with yogurt, rock salt, paprika and roasted spices – absolutely lovely! Mr T found the Gilafi Sheek – succulent lamb sheek kebab coated with herbs, peppers and mild English Cheddar – very hard to resist declaring them the best he had tasted. He has tasted a lot!!!

Have I made you hungry yet?  Well here come the main course dishes which were just as much of a treat. From the lovely Mutton Mappas – a traditional south Indian lamb curry – to the delicious South Indian Garlic Chicken. The accompanying Methiwala Sag Aloo and Dal matching the tastes superbly.

Being a corporate event there was sitar player entertaining us with fantastic versions of songs from the 60s right up to ‘Moves Like Jagger’ – just quietly playing in the background and showcasing how easy it would be to use the space for any sort of event. We were handed brochures detailing three different levels of menu for events – Silver, Gold or Platinum and ranging from £17.95 – £26.95 per person for a delectable range of appetisers, starters, main courses and dessert.

I’m beginning to run out of superlatives to describe, what is, a really outstanding restaurant! If you want to make an occasion special; with an added wow factor – for business or pleasure – I heartily recommend you head along to the Calcutta Brasserie.
