My cousin and I went to see thrilling and funny Bugsy Malone at the Millfield Theatre yesterday with her two girls aged 7 and 12. Situated in the heart of Edmonton in north London, Millfield theatre forms part of Millfield Arts Centre. The theatre is less than 5 minutes by walk from Silver Street train station and easily reachable through several bus routes. For those who drive, there is ample parking space for visitors which is not very common for many London theatres. Having been significantly refurbished just over 5 years ago, the theatre has a very light and open feel to it.

Upon entering the doors, instantly felt the enjoyable buzz and excitement of a theatre. The large waiting hall has plenty of tables and chairs and there is a canteen/bar to the left. It was 19:30 and there was already a queue forming to get into the theatre hall for the 19:45 show. A cheerful member of staff checked our tickets and pointed us to our seats. Once we were settled in our seats, I took a moment to admire the grand auditorium of the theatre.

The musical kick starts right on time with their fantastic orchestra and within a few minutes the stage is filled with amazing dancers wearing eye catching 1920s costumes. The show presented by SMP production is based on the hit 1976 film and tells the story of a gang dispute in 1920s New York through an adult cast, unlike the movie itself. This musical displays some great humour, dancing, acting and singing skills with a surprisingly fast pace and not a dull moment.

At £12 for children and £15 for adults, the show is an exceptionally good value and so are the refreshments available before the show and during the intermission.

Unlike my cousin, I had not watched the movie and therefore did not know much about the show, and yet, I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful musical. And the icing on the cake was being able to rub pie on the face of the cast before leaving the theatre for a small donation of £1! Needless to say that my cousin went for the performer playing the bad guy. This show is performed by an extremely energetic cast and it a great entertainment for adults and children alike.
