It’s that time of year again, time to start thinking of what to buy friends and family as a Christmas present. As soon as Halloween treats are gone from the shops, the shelves start filling with a huge array of gift ideas, but with the cost of living increases and high inflation, you want a gift that’s going to be used and stand the test of time, not end up in the bin a week later.

My son loves listening to music and watching videos, but we don’t always want to hear it, especially if we are travelling in the car or on a flight, so wireless headphones would be a great gift for him, which led me to thinking about a similar gift for other children in the family. Luckily, I was offered the chance to be able to try out a pair of BuddyPhones POP Fun headphones which are specifically aimed at children, winning Silver in the Product Safety Awards 2021.

The headphones come in four colours, light green, white, blue & yellow and each colour comes with a selection of four different stickers to personalise the headpieces. I was sent the plain white pair to review, and they came in an unassuming blue box with an image of the headphones and stickers on complete with BuddyPhones Pop Fun branding in silver. The box was pretty plain, and I must admit it wouldn’t make me pick it off the shelf. On the back and sides of the box there was a lot more information on the headphones such as showing the control panel with volume and on off button and showing how they fold etc. Inside the box there was the headphones themselves, four pairs of circular stickers, a USB-C charger and a plug in audio cord so you can use the headphones without Bluetooth. I thought the selection of stickers was a bit odd, a cartoon unicorn, images of lemons, terrazzo pieces, and a sepia image of someone playing the guitar, but they were well shaped, easy to apply and really brightened up the look of the plain white headphones.

I have a tiny head and always use children’s headphones and I found these really comfortable to wear. They have a soft padded area on the inside of the headpiece, a brilliant rotating ear piece system so they fit the ear flat whatever position you are in and super soft ear pads. They are easy to make bigger and smaller just by pulling out the extending headpiece. The ear pieces also contain the volume and on & off buttons so you can find them easily. One thing I always have a problem with is getting the Bluetooth to pair with my device, not with the Buddyphones, it was totally stress free. Press the on/off button 3 times and it came straight up on my device & paired immediately giving me a full 19 hours of battery life between charging. There are two volume settings on the head phones, 94dB pop mode & 85dB safe mode and you can easily switch between them using both volume buttons. I used the safe mode to watch a film and the sound was perfect, I didn’t need it any louder. It was clear and had bass, not tinny like some cheap headphones.

The BuddyPhones can also be used for phone calls, you can answer & end the call using the on/off button and speak & be heard clearly using the inbuilt microphone. They are a great all round pair of headphones and I found them way more comfortable than my much more expensive in ear pair. At around £29.99, they are excellent value for money, come with good instructions, are comfy, stylish and above all safe. A perfect gift for any age child this Christmas.
