Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Restaurant Review
Bubba Gump’s Shrimp

Who’s your favourite, Forrest Gump or Bubba?
The themed restaurant Bubba Gump is based around the film Forrest Gump, mainly serving, you guessed it; shrimp and sea food. The whole restaurant from the serving staff to the food on the menus, has a Southern flavour with specialities including lobster linguini and Mama’s bread pudding. You’ll first walk through the shop downstairs which supplies every type of slogan t-shirt (stupid is as stupid does!) and memorabilia. Speaking of memorabilia, the seating areas upstairs are a homage to both the film Forrest Gump, and the social history of America from 1950s through to the 1980s. Every time you walk round the corner there’s something new to see. Even on the tables they have a “stop/go” sign to summons the serving staff!
Food is from a very American style menu and arrives in American portion sizes too. Never have I not been able to finish a salad due to gigantic plate portions but Bubba Gump’s beat me here. However, there is always room for dessert and we shared the tasting dessert menu which included choc chip cookie, strawberry shortbread and Mama’s famous bread pudding, all served with ice cream and cream!
The amply stocked bar also concocts margaritas, cocktails and smoothies as well as good ol’ American beer.
One tip before you go – watch the Forrest Gump film one more time. The waiting staff help get you in the mood by asking trivia questions about the film. How many miles did Forrest run? Where was Forrest from in America? How many shrimps did The Jenny catch on her maiden voyage? The staff know all the answers, but in case you need some last minute swatting, the large TV screens which play the movie (or US football) will keep you informed.
It’s a family meal out, no matter what time of day, which reminds you of the film, but, more importantly takes you back to the old fashioned values of Forrest’s childhood, even if you’re it from Greenbow Alabama, nor know anything about shrimp.
