Who hasn’t been enchanted by the tale of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, at some point in their lifetime? Written in 1969 by the fabulous author & artist Eric Carle and selling 48 million copies (one of which I own), it’s a wonderful story following the journey of a very hungry caterpillar, as it emerges from its egg and chomps its way through a multitude of delicious foods on its journey to transforming into a beautiful butterfly.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show has been dazzling audiences around the globe for over seven years, faithfully bringing to the stage this timeless classic and now it’s headed to Lighthouse, Poole as part of the 2025 tour, with 4 shows over Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October 2025.
Created by Jonathan Rockefeller this production of the critically acclaimed show is brought to you in association with Rockefeller Productions and ROYO. Not only does it feature a menagerie of over 75 magical puppets but also adapts 3 other popular stories by Eric Carle: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks and The Very Busy Spider, alongside, of course, the star of the show – The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The late Eric Carle gave a wonderful endorsement of the show: “I am happy the performances will be enjoyed by many and that the colourful characters will bring comfort and joy to all who see the stories that have been so carefully produced. It is uplifting to see such beautiful and cheerful works inspired by my characters! I hope my books – and this show – will inspire you and your imagination.”
Suitable for all ages, The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show is taking place in the Theatre at Lighthouse, Poole, which is perfect for a family show like this. I, for one, can’t wait to take my daughter along to see one of her favourite books brought to life, before our very eyes!
Tickets start from £16.50, which is great value and provides a perfect opportunity to introduce children to live theatre, with a colourful, captivating performance.
