Bonnie & Clyde is a well-known story of 2 American gangsters whose love for each other and Bonnie’s obsession with fame and grabbing the headlines saw them both die it a hail bullets in a police ambush. This new version, based on the true story, of the story show how they both ended up being shot to pieces on the 23 May 1943. Bonnie was only 23, while Clyde was 25.

Clyde Chestnut Barrow (Emile Hirsch) started his criminal career by stealing chickens and if he had never meet the fame obsessed Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (Holliday Grainger) he may not have died full of bullet holes in a stolen car.

Clyde was a small time thief with a crush on the married Bonnie. When Bonnie’s husband runs off when she is just 19 Clyde asks her out. When Clyde gets himself locked up in jail Bonnie smuggles a gun into the jail for him helping him to escape starting the infamous pairing of Bonnie & Clyde.

For the next 3 years Bonnie & Clyde travelled around robbing grocery stores, gas stations and banks. It is only after a robbery goes wrong and a man is killed that things take a very deadly turn for the worst.

When Bonnie only mentioned in the newspaper as Clyde’s female companion she sets about making a name for herself by sending the journalist photos and speaking to her, which provides Bonnie with the fame and headlines she seeks.

When a retired ex-Texas Ranger, Frank Hamer (William Hurt), is hired to track them down the stakes are upped seeing Bonnie & Clyde getting bigger and more powerful guns. This sees the death of several police officers and ultimately the police ambush which sees over 150 bullets fired into the stolen car of the young outlaws.

Overall, this version of Bonnie & Clyde is absolutely brilliant and a must see. Bonnie definitely manipulated Clyde into doing what she wanted to grab the headlines and Holliday Grainger as Bonnie in brilliant.

Bonnie & Clyde is packed with action, car chases, shoot outs, prison breaks, bank robberies, man hunts, true-life crime and romance.

Highly recommended.
