My daughter and I have just returned from a brilliant night at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable, watching Beyond The Barricade. As huge musical theatre fans, we were very excited to see this 2 hour concert; it did not disappoint.
It’s always a pleasure to watch shows at the Grove Theatre. It’s situated in the heart of Dunstable, surrounded by plenty of bars, pleasant places to eat, and hassle-free parking.
As soon as we arrived, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Every time we visit this theatre, nothing is ever too much trouble. The bar was busy, but the staff were working hard to get everyone served as quick as possible.
As we took to our seats, we could see the theatre was filling up quick. We were pleased with our view; our seats were comfortable, with plenty of leg room.
As soon as it started, the cast had captured the attention of the whole audience. We enjoyed the show from start to finish. It was filled with West End and Broadway musical hit songs, from many of our favourite West End shows; this included Miss Saigon, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, and many more. The cast starred 4 very talented West End performers: David Fawcett, Andy Reiss, Rebecca Vere and Katie Leeming, together with their live band.
Beyond the Barricade have been touring now for 19 years. They were all fantastic; you couldn’t fault them. Their voices were simply mesmerising, and I had goosebumps all throughout. The interaction between David and the audience was brilliant, as he spoke to the audience in between songs. He was very funny, and had the audience laughing lots.
They finished the show with my daughter’s favourite song from Les Misérables, one day more. She was delighted! The whole audience got up from their seats to give a well-deserved standing ovation.
This show is not to be missed. We would go and see it again and again.
