Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches by Julie Fulton Review

Reviewed by David Savage

Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches is a picture book written by Julie Fulton, writer and creator of the ‘Ever So’ children’s series of rhyming picture books. It has been illustrated by Rachel Suzanne and published by Maverick Books – an independent children’s picture book publisher.

Jack loves egg sandwiches. But when a grizzly bear turns up at the door looking for lunch, it wants something more interesting than egg sandwiches to eat. Jack offers the bear several egg sandwiches, but he is insistent that “bears don’t eat egg sandwiches!” and asks for a big plate and a big spoon. But what is the bear going to eat for lunch?

Overall, this is a fantastic story. Since it arrived it has been read by the twins (5 years old) at least once a day (and now know all the words by heart). A superbly written story by Julie Fulton about a very courteous and polite boy who tries to share his lunch with a very grumpy and hungry bear.

The simple, yet informative, illustrations by Rachel Suzanne complement the story very well and convey the meaning of the story in a great way.

Both boys love Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches and are very big fans of Maverick picture books. A fun story that makes good reading.
