This item combines both a laptop stand and a document holder. When I first picked this item out of the box it arrived in I noticed how light it is. The laptop slots in behind the document holder so the screen is fully visible above the holder and documents are also fully visible in front of the laptop. I am not great at touch typing during meetings so do still make notes that I need to type up so the added document holder, being just under the screen and in direct vision, is really useful. The stand has 3 different height settings, adjustable with metal silver bolts at the back. Although fairly self explanatory, an instruction leaflet would have been useful with the item. It is suitable for laptops between the size of 14 and 16 inches. The dimensions are 215mm by 140mm with a depth of 350mm and it weighs 501 grams.

The item is a mottled grey colour and looks quite fluffy, although I can confirm that it isn’t, though it is described as ‘PET felt’, PET being ‘polyethylene terephthalate’. I already knew that it is a sustainable version of one of their items. 60% of its composition is made up of 5 compressed recycled plastic bottles. The plastic bottles are turned in to flakes that then get processed in to granulate which is processed to become a PET felt board. They state, ‘By reusing plastic bottles, we are doing our part to reduce the amount of waste on land and in our oceans.’ The end product is fully recyclable and Bakker Elkhuizen offer to recycle it if you return it to them. I suspect that shipping to the Netherlands would remove a little of the eco friendliness aspect of the product, although it would still remove it from being put in landfill which is a bonus.

The product was easy and straightforward to use. Although it doesn’t feel particularly sturdy it is stable even when fully loaded with both laptop and paperwork. Their description states, ‘Soft, yet strong! Although the material appears soft, no compromises have been made for the required properties such as load-bearing capacity. These products are also very strong, just like acrylic!’ and I can confirm that this is the case.

I’ve been working from home for the last 15 months due to the pandemic. My office is now my dining room table. I was able to take my office equipment home to use. However, my organisation has plans to have a hybrid approach to returning to office working with a mix of office and home working in the future. As such, this came at the perfect time as equipment will probably be expected to be returned to the office to be used there so I was likely to need to buy a laptop stand, keyboard and mouse for home use.

The three height settings don’t vary the height significantly, so if you are looking for a product that has the ability for the height to be adjusted considerably then this product probably isn’t for you. However, I expect that the settings on it cater for most average heights and statistics show that it is much better to use a laptop with a stand (as well as a separate keyboard and mouse) for both improved posture and improved productivity.

With working on my dining room table I clear my equipment away when using the table for its original use and actually eating at it rather than working on it. This is a breeze with this being so light and easy to move. I wouldn’t say that it is the most aesthetically pleasing item but it maintains all the features of their original ergo-top 320 stand so is just as practical yet allows you to do your bit for the environment.

If you like shiny and sleek then this also won’t be for you, due to the aforementioned ‘fuzzy’ appearance. However, if you’re keen to be a bit kinder to the environment with the products you buy and use and are looking for a more eco friendly laptop stand that combines with a document holder then this should appeal. I seek to reduce my impact on the environment with items where possible, so this is a great option for me.

I rate this 4.5/5, the RRP is £47.99 although the cheapest I can currently find it for sale in the Uk is via Amazon from £79.55 here. (editor’s note – price updated by editor)
