I was very happy to be asked to review a box of Snow Day Letterbox Cookies from Steph’s Bakes which make up part of this year’s Christmas collection. Steph’s Bakes is a bakery in East London which was founded in 2018 and bakes a wide variety of products which are all hand made with love.
With another Christmas fast approaching, and friends and family who don’t live locally, I’m always looking for new ideas of gifts to send them. Steph’s Bakes has a range of letterbox friendly items that can be posted, using a range of shipping options to ensure that they are received in time for the big day. As they are letterbox friendly the recipient doesn’t need to be home to receive them either which is another bonus, as there’s nothing more frustrating than coming home to a “sorry we missed you” card through the door. The last day to order for this Christmas is 22nd December so there’s still a few days left to get an order in.

The Snow Day Letterbox Cookies came in super quick time, I received them the day after they were posted. They came very securely packaged in a plain brown cardboard package, with a sticker warning that the contents were fragile.
Upon opening the outer packaging, I was impressed to find a pink and purple Christmas sleeve wrapping the all-important box of cookies which were in a lovely pale blue, understated box. Inside, perfectly cushioned, was a collection of six different shaped cookies, all wonderfully baked and iced by hand depicting various items from a snowy day. These were a Christmas tree, snowman, snowflake, mittens, winter coat and a banner which said Happy Holidays on it – although this can be personalised to include a message of your choice. They were so beautiful to look at it seemed a shame to eat them but of course, in the spirit of reviewing them – and not really needing any excuse to tuck in, we did and we weren’t disappointed. The cookies tasted really nice and buttery, and the icing was just the right thickness to compliment the cookies. One thing that did confuse us was that the box said they were gingerbread flavour, but they didn’t taste of ginger and there was no ginger listed in the ingredients! Not that this made a difference to our enjoyment.

These cookies would make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone. They have a three-month shelf life (ours are dated 18 March 2022) so they don’t need to be eaten immediately if the recipient wants to admire them for a while before tucking in, although there was no danger of that happening in our house! They are also vegetarian friendly (and vegan versions are available).

The cookies are fairly expensive at £28 plus postage per box, which makes them about £4.60 each but, as a gift for someone on a special occasion like Christmas, I think this is acceptable, and the recipient would be overjoyed to receive them.
As well as Christmas products, Steph’s Bakes sell a wide range of letterbox cookies for all occasions and can even make bespoke designs on request so I’ll definitely be checking them out in the future when I’m looking for gifts.
