ASK Italian Welwyn Garden City Review

Reviewed by Shelley East

I visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t overly busy and found it extremely inviting. A few tables were taken by families and couples having lunch.

The restaurant was impeccably clean with a bright decor throughout. It is very well decorated with bright Mediterranean colours; zesty lime and lemons and the reds reminded me of sun ripe tomatoes. The furniture is light woods and with bright lighting and an air of all things Italian, I was very impressed with the interior design. To the front of the restaurant is an eating area. In nice weather you could sit outside and dine or even have a coffee and venture off into town shopping which is all yards away!

The house rose’ wine was crisp and cold and tasted lovely. My partner chose a bottle of Peroni beer again nice and cold and both served in modern glasses. My wine glass was like a little fish bowl and I loved the attention to detail. We shared a Bruschetta starter. It was lovely. The bread was crisp and the tomato topping was absolutely delicious. The fragranced oil was packed with flavour and the tomatoes extremely fresh!

After our starters we couldn’t wait for our mains. I had spaghetti carbonara and my partner chose a chicken and mushroom risotto. The best he has ever had apparently! Both dishes were large portions served in giant bowls and looked really appealing. The dishes were hot and smelt delicious. The carbonara was perfectly cooked, the spaghetti soft and tossed in a cheesy sauce with delicious pancetta. The pancetta was crispy and was slightly salty and just made the dish so tasty! I couldn’t finish the whole portion as it was really filling but my partner ate all of his and really enjoyed it.

We decided to try the sorbet for desert and both shared a raspberry sorbet and a mango sorbet. Both were really fruity and completely cleansed the palette after eating.

The whole experience was brilliant and I highly recommend this restaurant for dining as a family, as a couple, meeting with friends or even to impress on a first date! The location is ideal for shoppers, a nice place to eat before cinema/theatre or a night out. The staff were friendly. The service was quick and efficient and I can’t wait to dine with Ask again!
