ASK Italian Cambridge Review

Reviewed by Delphi Ellis

Welcome to this slice of Italy in the heart of Cambridge!  If travelling by car find your way to the Park Street car park which is just round the corner from the restaurant.  Parking is 70p an hour after 8pm (more expensive before).

We were warmly greeted, shown to our seats and handed menus along with information about the daily specials.  There is a wide variety of drinks and wines with special emphasis placed on the drinks having Italian origin and plenty of vegetarian options on the menu.

Drinks:
Small Peroni
Limonata (very refreshing, real sparkling lemon served with ice)

As we made our meal choices we were given a sample of delicious and aromatic rosemary and sea salt bread to try with olive oil.

Starters:
Mushroom al Forno £5.35 – beautiful sizzling mushrooms served with garlic mayo dressing
Classica Bruschetta £4.95 – Italian bread with tomatoes and caramelised onion

Main courses:
Spaghetti al pomodoro £7.25 – cooked spaghetti in a gorgeously rich tomato sauce served with a huge, fresh slices of buffalo mozzarella
Pollo piccante pizza con pancetta £9.35 – chicken slices on a freshly cooked pizza with mushrooms, flame roasted peppers and cubed pancetta
Side order of chips with garlic mayonnaise

Dessert:
Honeycomb cheesecake dusted with icing sugar £5.15 – sweet and simply delicious
Profiteroles £5.65 – beautifully presented with mouth-watering hot sauce

Decaf/ordinary latte £2.15 – carefully handmade and presented with a bowl of sugar cubes to sweeten if desired

The lighting was a bit too harsh for my liking and could be softened to make the mood more open to romantic gatherings. The restaurant has a slightly “Ikea ” feel to it with unusual decor in different colours which match the walls, furniture and ceiling; this isn’t necessarily a bad thing and down to individual taste. It certainly didn’t take anything away from the wonderful food and service.

The restaurant had friendly, attentive staff throughout.
