I was lucky enough to receive an arthr long hot water bottle complete with a luxury fleece cover. It is a pretty much a hot water bottle in that it is a rubber bottle that you fill with hot, not boiling water, and is covered in a fabric cover, but the difference here is that it’s long. Really long. The dimensions are 84cm by 13cm by 4cm. It’s basically half my body length! And this really is where it sets it apart from any other hot water bottle I have ever owned. We’re a family of water bottle users given that we live in an old 1930s brick house that isn’t very well insulated and so the nights can be very cold.
I was given a long hot water bottle that came in a lovely soft grey fleece cover which goes by the colour name Moonstone Grey, but it also comes in a Rose Quartz Pink and a Topaz Blue. I think if I was to order one of these myself, I would have chosen the moonstone grey anyway as it’s the more neutral colour and my son, young son and daughter would be happy to use that colour.
The unique selling point to this long water bottle, is that is can be used for both and cold water depending on your needs but, and this is the interesting bit, the fleece cover has a strap and loop which allows you to tie the bottle to your body in a variety of ways which allows it to be hands free! This is so useful and there are many times in the night where I roll over in bed at night and then have to reposition my hot water bottle if I’m using it to relieved aches and pains, rather than just to provide heat on a cold night. I have used this to soothe lower back pain and the fact that the bottle stayed put all night was a godsend. The strap did not dig into my tummy, it didn’t chaff, nor did it untie during my tossing and turning. There is a helpful video on the company’s website explaining how to not only fill the bottle, which at first can seem tricky due to the length of the bottle itself, but also it explains how to tie the bottle to your body and shows a few positions too. I also think it would be really useful to soothe period pains as it can be tied round your waist but as the bottle is quite slimline, it would not add too much bulk making it difficult to sit down.
Not only did I use the bottle at night to soothe my lower back pain, but I’ll admit I have used it during the day when I’m working from home and I’m chilly due to the fact that I’m not moving around much as I’m working at a desk, but due to the price of heating your home, I do not want to put the heating on just for me in the house. The bottle kept most of my body warm due to the length and was so cosy and soft too.
The website does state that “Parental supervision is advised if given to children. Not suitable for children under 3 years of age due to small parts choking hazard” but I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving this to my kids to use overnight due to the strap which may be dangerous if it wrap around their necks as they moved in their sleep, but they have both happily snuggled with it during a family film night in the lounge.
In addition to the bottle itself, one reason to buy this bottle from arthr rather than other long bottle suppliers is due to the fact that arthr is a linked to the charity Versus Arthritis and the website has items all developed ergonomically with arthritis suffers in mind.
Overall, I would score the arthr long hot water bottle with luxury fleece cover a 3/5 based on it’s versatility, cost and build quality.
