My twin sons recently had their 9th birthday and I was over the moon to get the opportunity of reviewing the Aquabeads Super Mario Creation Cube.  The cube arrived quickly in perfect condition.  The cube itself is an appealing yellow colour with cardboard around the cube itself.  When I read that there were over 2500 star, solid and jewel beads inside the box I was amazed.  Having 30 colours of beads made sure that there was a real variety of colours too.  The cube also contained a creation display, background sheet, design pegs, layout tray, sprayer, templates plus some very clear to follow instructions.  One of my twins wanted to give this a go from the moment I gave it to him.  He was so patient and sat through a train journey to visit some family members before opening the cube at his nanny’s house.  This was a toy that he simply didn’t want to put down.

He decided which character he wanted to make, found the beads needed for that particular character and put them all in place.  After using the sprayer to spray water onto the beads, he left the beads to dry out for at least 60 minutes.  After patiently waiting for the 60 minutes or more, he excitedly showed various members of our household his creation before putting it on display.

He made numerous creations over the course of a few days which included Super Mario, Princess Peach and a unicorn.  The water spray worked well to hold the beads together. I liked the fact that all of the contents fitted easily back inside the cube after a day of creating various characters. This toy is not suitable for children under age 3 due to small parts. It is suitable for age 4+.  There is so much choice bead variety and colour wise that you can even make your own characters.

Upon reading up about how Aquabeads came about, I found out that the Aquabeads was created by Epoch Co. Ltd back in 2004, so 17 years ago.

Size of item: 16.5 x 16 x 14cm

I mentioned earlier in my review that the set went on a train journey to Nanny’s house. It was the perfect size and weight to carry.  The cube itself has a handy white handle which I think perfectly compliments the yellow colour of the cube.  I love how the background sheet and T’s various creations look together.

I can struggle to find toys and activities which keep my twins interest.   This Aquabeads set kept T interested for hours on end.  I think that it is great for fine motor skills too, because of having to put the various beads in the required position to make the various characters.  Yes, mistakes can be made but I think that is all part of the fun and that learning problem solving skills in childhood is really important for later life. As a parent I am a fun of any toy that encourages creativity and this toy fits the bill.

I think that this product made a perfect 9th birthday gift for my twins.  I would recommend Aquabeads as well as this specific set due to the thought that has gone into the product and the quality of the set itself.  I also think that it would make an excellent ‘Just because’ or Christmas gift idea.  I think that this set actually made my little T’s day.
